whereIgo

lavender tears
of silent surrender
– pewter restored
to a moment divine
last time I held you –
last time a whisper
in blushes of dogwood
blossomed
to skin

secrets
told somewhere
others are saying –
how long the night
 protecting the dawn –
recalled to the memory
 another undoing –
led us to paths
were to share
let us go

powder magnolia
and split fences falling
tangled our words
into something forgot
the reasons
for staying –
and who would remember
the scent of forever
was dogwood
to bloom

once upon

when the summer path
has turned to rust –
and wingeds line the trees
– content to stir
as echoes
to the breeze

were times between
the golden glow –
the silver face of green
a lowly line
succumb to time –
is crossing us again

winter wheat
and dirty feet
were given to believe –
the autumn moon
was never meant
to tell –

april blossoms worried
as june bugs found july
waters rose
beyond the bank
to wash away
the night

moments
to the mayfly –
as secrets shared
with mars
venus wears her dresses
just the same –

age recalls
the coming back
miles of lonely tears –
whiskey warm in jelly jars
– wishes
by the well

spin me of another
some sweet day
to come –
the sound of naked feet
on
polished stone

the shrill of laughter
climbing –
timbers much too tall
than e’er we knew
would find us here

– and will us back
to home

getting ready

in the quietly unfolding
vanilla satin wings –
where shutters made of music
bang the porch
leaning in (as leaning does)
just before the fall
of breath into beginning
us again

in the rhythm of remember
a poem stirs awake –
counting now the verses
(one by one)
measured by the silent steps
from one end to the other
lives restored
as lanterns barely burned

forever stops to witness
graces undeclared
patches sewn together
(in the dark)
leaving spared another day
for smiles without the taking
was here we learned
to love –
here we stay

somewhere I do

honeysuckle ribbons
are wrapped
as time with string
and squeezed against a plank
of aching red
dusted hallelujahs
are buried by the post
and rusted
to the latch
just like they said

we’d never make the papers
never knew our time
would end –
struggled with the map
unspoken shame –
as day old letters
fade into the memory of a box
– and photographs
don’t hold me
quite the same

a kiss
the taste as summer
a touch the same as true
gentle eyes
were watching me –
as I was watching you
like who would know
the stories
weren’t for telling
where we’d be –
or where we started over
might be here –
you came for me

as roads to trace
from east to west –
were moved as north I took
a ticket in my pocket
found me there
let me know
if e’er the stars
are moved from where
I loved –
as honeysuckle moments
are pulling
at my hair

the window is held open
by a breath
of morning breeze –
where wrapped we were by one
another time
yellow blossoms break
across an endless
open sky –
robins sing
tho worry not
for rhyme

salvation

waiting word

broken strings
and one more rhythm
words are torn apart –
someone thought
it perfect
for the dance
seems for me
the work around
is always more than rocking
barefoot suits me better
e’en when the boards
are bare
quietly the sing-along
of magic to my leaning –
take me home
to close my eyes
where have I to swoon
kiss and tell
has served you well
tho who is left
to notice
the band is gone
but still the music
plays

. . .

from here

from the first
I knew of loving –
was a truth
I swore to find
cowboy boots
and hand me down
sheets hung on the line

amazing grace
and one more taste
of night
before the dawn
promise poured to places
rarely seen
finger painted fortunes
prophets tell about –
heaven waits confession
of our dreams

a star or two
you never knew –
the universe from here
come the flame
I know by name
when nights are cold
and clear

melody of mandolins
as fireflies are spilled
– lanterns
glowing gold above the fields
wishes made
for more than time –
mapping worlds beyond
a compass pointing
gently to our need

take my hand
the water’s cold
the rocks just close enough
to memorize creation
in a fallen
constellation

– as seekers trace
the light to know
our love
…

the same as I ~

estranged

across
into this southern still
wherein the last wild goose
has flown –
stretched against the beating drum
distance melts to psalm
played again
on northern flutes
and meant to save
us all

alone
to pen these letters few
will speak of all I know
ancients leaving feathers
on the lawn
whistle as the lessons fall
eager to the rise
stories there
where graces come to word –
memories are stirred
the same as I

steady
as the twilight
perched upon the fence
watches past the time
where life begins to never end
sweeps to reams of maple
every mention
of goodbye –
lullabys we never knew
echo through the dark

rapture wrapped in arms
of evergreen

proof

frosted
white of winter leaves
silence in the kitchen
where cluttered there with dishes
on the floor

survivors
of an evening past
how slow our recognition
of places held
before
the coffee spilt

splattered
to the ashes –
crystal cigarettes
are careful in their telling
of our lies

maybe
when the sun is poured
new across the vinyl –
we’ll wander here
to pick the pieces up

forgotten how it hurt
curses now gone colder –
tears have dried
beneath
the habit’s stain

wonder rests
in sheets
of softest denim

would steal away
the sorrows
from the night

guards the road
we failed to take –
some other magic morning

streamed
beyond the reaches
of our plight
