grant me this
endearment
more than smoke
when nights grow cold
as ages come an end
to winter howls

give me strength
an unseen will –
to ride the darkest hour –
would ever there be times
without you here

wished me well
of thoughts to dwell
and ripples
ink shall marry –
conformed was never made
as verse to rhyme

sorrow works
her merry way –
as stillness
fills the forest
nightbirds spread the dawn
along the way

carry me
as breath beyond –
without a name to limit
skies the shade of roses
mid July

speak my name
as silent sighs
calm the winds of autumn
seek me now
alive in every thing

morning waits
with stubborn will
to cheat the night of wonder
magic stirs
beside the path –
begs the candle burn

discovery ~

forgiven now
the long night waited
of morning come
as proof of grace –
where shadows passed
from one – another
eternity at last
with place

who shall come
would know my story
of mysteries I’ve left behind
touch returned
as blossomed mercies
written now
your truth to mine

years have passed
as verse unpracticed
kept to lines
I scarce can read –
silken thread
untied
unraveled
more than want –
such tender need

favored cup
my hands remember
other nights we passed
the same –
lives to crossing
maps unfolded –
destiny at last
a name

pardon the mess
of daydreams and daisies –
journals piled high
on the edge of the couch
coffee too strong
and rings of surrender –
to traces where flicker
a candle burned out

pardon the glare
of light through the window
tore down the curtains
and moved near the bed
propped so the breezes blow
warm through my winters
kept me in secrets –
unsaved for regret

pardon the lack
of plans for tomorrow
last time – the calendar
lost me a year
forgotten the want
to change with the seasons –
no use moving on –
hold me right here

pardon the mess
of something needs cleaning
and where are the jeans
I held out to wear
kiss me –
forever seems nothing
worth trading –
as light crowds the window
with promise to share

syllables counted
suitcases gone
as something reminds
our season to end –
when wore me back down
as wing’eds to flame
and the ways of the wanderer
starting
again

as something (made stronger)
than compass
to bend –
maps become lines
in the choice of retreat
passions (so easy)
as sunlight to shade
where closing
my eyes
the story repeats

as briar
and blossom –
willow to wren
keepers were seeking
of keys (stayed behind)
pages spill over
with moments of truth
as black splits the night
into echoes
of time

since the age
of deciding
another to chance
guarded recycles –
aquarius come
aligned with my stars
as the sky
(nothing more)
as once I was written
to rings by the sun

wait
as I will
a lifetime (much more)
ten thousand
so quickly
my path to retrace
by births unremembered
my heart wakes (anew)
as night folds –
yet steals not
my place

to the edge ~

of scattered few
a picture book –
and verses understood
was meaning more than e’er
the pen could find

what eloquence decided
by the poet to the page –
rhyme
when none would work
to speak my mind

of messages I left alone
and roads
forever winding –
willed me back into the ways
I was

fragile
as a falling leaf
tender as a tear
wandering o’er seasons
I was love

were not for this
these souvenirs
of mystery and minding
touch almost forgotten
by my skin

saved a place
for every year
breath as breath immortal
here am I –
and getting used
to knowing you
again

pearls ~

spare me
the telling
of where you might be
when the last
of the last days
is come

sew not confusion
o’er shadows reset
or living made less –
in pursuit
of the one

strained consequences
as someone sleeps in –
wrapped
in another man’s vow

bring me to worship
where questions
still burn –
awaiting of truth
to remember us now

breath to these embers
a moment too late
as words seldom used
stain the floor

death or delusion
I’d choose – rightly so
the turning of words
to the asking
for more

spare me the telling
of where you are now
forgotten
the reasons to go

sit me the night
at the doorway to next –
awash in the wonder
of tellings untold

silver slash
of copper canyons –
lined with linen
satin sheets
careless carve
of age and water –
blue as cold
the waters sleeve

downward
upward – backward
flowing
washed beneath
these ruby walls
held alone with swishing
sweaters
knitted by the night
to shawl

silent here
the place of gathers
fathers more than years
to save
pushed as luck
below the surface
ashes blown
into the grave

of places left for you
how could I –
a happy ending –
ever write myself into
another day

a night made less
for pressed between
the crystal glass
of dawning
close my eyes
and somewhere we
embrace

mixed as harp with violin
creme brulee and cognac –
moments without rhyme
as verse to close

stray the pen
to chart these lands –
hill
and vale
and river
tary not for moments
without map

stay the night
with compass round
and mystery befalling –
the edge of time
else morning
we be gone

within the quiet
where I live –
as graces known before
autumn spills around me –
leaves are falling sore
to bring me now
into this still
where chilly secrets lay
as something more
than e’er my words could say

a wanderer
to southern winds –
a time of fates aligning
as streams to cross
and rhyme to understand
kentucky wears confession
of the pieces
to my heart –
and gifts the light
within my
soul to you

counted one
the end of me –
chapter twenty nine
as postage worn
reminding you of home
voices of forever
ring within my sound
a laughter seems to echo
now in dreams

dear and dearest
who am I –
and where my truth is come
does mystery await
the seeker find
weaved within these ribbons
of auburn silver
blue –
stars begat
the endless sky
as nights are winking true

ancient ways
of tender ache –
a time of consecration –
became these hands
to pull the night around
bring me to the edge
of sight –
return me now
your longing –
a whisper once
remembers still to come

the first to go –
the last to linger
faces
places
blur the line
eyes rolled back
and there the future –
consequence
of love’s design

dimestore pearls
and easy does it
spend the last
of me to go
somewhere down the way
of searching –
time will prove
you told me so

I’ll be fine
no cause to worry
dare I leave the night ajar
one more step
from here to never
given push –
one time too far

blackened beaks
and silver rudders
destiny denied to form
close as some
the shadow spirals
reason rides before
the storm
