how deeply were roots
weaved into granite ~
briar or bruise
(beyond them to care)
cleaved to their kin
as lovers ill-fated ~
unintended this soil to share

slept through the night
dreaming of water ~
as visions of truth brought the thirsty awake
cruel and cramped (extinctive survival)
sworn to each other ~
a living to make

but fell to the midst
a lovely companion
burst from a seed (unassumed)
gentle retort of rocky intention
when met with the blade ~
of destiny’s bloom

how proudly she sways
the daylight to beckon
a moment to shine on her face
blushing umbrella of infamous fare ~
is held ever sure
in the briar’s embrace

fearless their push
to the edge of forsaken
moved as the night to alter their view ~
of all that she is
would lose in becoming
companion to these
unfortunate few

see how she smiles
for those without blossom
drawn to their beauty
(as only she knows)
sharing the light
as one with the meadow ~
tho miles from its bosom
she grows

thought I knew
of distance ~
thought I knew of destinies
words I might not
ever hear were tangled
in the trees

forgotten
what I meant to say
remembered where we were
when for a time
forever left a stain
upon my heart

thought I was
as none could be ~
grace much more than this
whenever touch
my own was come ~
was proof of more
than bliss

of lifetimes passed
as whispers
of the future to unfold
was meant for love ~
and came to be
the only thing I know

of hurricanes
and dragonflies
into a northern flame
thought I heard you coming back
thought you spoke
my name

of the truths
forgotten there ~
and words were never ours
when sought again
the need to understand

the mystery
of magnitude ~
the first
was last
to ever
and chapters fell
as flutters to the floor

a name or two
we trusted more
for keeping real our stories ~
when gave us all we’d need
for getting on

traded down the line
for love ~
spoke when none
would listen
and set the rights
of solitude to stone

red to grey
these lacey lines ~
trials and trails
and treasure
grace surrendered more
by shifting light

babies cry
while mothers pray
tomorrow will be better
when comes the son
another savior one

leave us not
with these to keep
show in us your presence ~
find us near
as prophecies revealed

in books our charge
foretelling ~
were not as pages sewn
but word becoming
more than word ~
when written
to the soul

of verses
I can find no place ~
no course of understanding
would still my beat
or bid my breathing slow

nurtured
by my father’s winds
reliving now the promise ~
fell to me
tis something more
I know

tis there beneath
the robin’s wing ~
there atop the rapids
flush with stone
the proof is come to stay

pages
met with pages
lines between the lines ~
would e’er I stand
and will the ground away

breath
as I was opened
face to face
with heaven ~
paradise in everything
I see

bite my tongue
and swell my tears ~
with memory of becoming
a love (as love created)
let there be

of all I know
tis more I feel ~
miracles becoming
stretched beyond the reaches
of our rhyme

of other
places given truth ~
rivers neath me rolling
meet me somewhere
I am now ~
warmed against
the light

as one
a wave of ribbons
spooled cross
and down the valley ~
where there with open arms
my spirit danced

as quietly
where none could see ~
held with one to wonder
and swayed beneath
a canopy
of lace

knitted cap
of wren and wasp
layers thick with mayfly
crisp the folding up
to fall in prayer

as soon
by daylight entered
to nurse beneath the rafters
for one more dream
another time to love

fancy this
the reasons come ~
in silence of remembrance
of who I was ~
and what was meant to be

amazed for roads
these hands to carve ~
as poems never written
were stitched into
the highest bough ~
were heaven there to hold

still
within this moment
light surrenders living ~
and breath is broken
somewhere
out beyond ~

the lean into
uncertainty ~
as loosed these fragile fallings
leaves are counting
yesterdays
again

the wonder
that is the forest song
and slip my tired flesh
beneath the boughs
bear me as the winter
gently to the spring
remembered come
the mountains
to me now

spill me
as eternity
against a stretch of sand
as polished to her mirror
were my ways

as one with all I see ~

as the morning
of vespers ~
a walk toward the lake
as a route neath the bridge
on your way

do you think of me
then ~
as your soul comes awake
and light spills
from heaven again

in the solace
of silence
the viligent verse ~
weaves into words
a reason to slow

misty blue skies
and I wandered this way
as near as the sunlight
to love

remembered of time
a dream such as this
of nights cursed by coffee
and miles

moved to a moment
of one standing still

above the night
below the dark ~
where wing’eds meet the sky
I sailed with you
(a time or two)
as whispers fluttered by

as strained to be
of mysteries
where here and there
began
to know of life
beyond this life ~
where lovers meet again

a hand to fit
around my own ~
as purpose felt before
when living past
these days shall come
and heed our cry

as tender as a touch

before the wind
had memory –
a mountain rose between
before the set –
we burned
beneath our skin

as messengers
of love’s refrain –
verses without answer
when promised time –
a sweeter thought
became

before the now
was come to this
we swore an oath to follow
stars into
a sacred night
revealed again our place

beyond our sleep
forever dreams
as witness to a moment –
when turned into the light
for which we came

too late
for words
to bind our soul –
sealed within the passing
of life into eternity
silently we go

somebody said
I was destined for nothing ~
nothing they thought
when I came here to be
smaller than most
and telling of others ~
lives nearly gone
something living
in me

of the ways
I have wandered
dare I speak of them now
when the best I could do
would be show you
(somehow)

the patterns in chaos
in the rust ~ in the flaw
in blossoms held back
by the vine

of a hole
on the backside
of all you believe ~
a universe strung
by the weight of a dream

blessed release
to see in the dark
tho labeled as crazy
sometimes ~
howling at moons
and shifting as shadow
let loose one night
by the stars

a pathway unnoticed
by prophets and thieves
was left in the ashes
of fear and belief ~
by fortune and wishes
made one

would that I warn you
of how short
the night
mornings to tremble
when finding you gone
left to the sheets
of nothing worth keeping

~ was nothing you knew
all along
