when you are broken
i will remind you
of sixty four colors
the ranges
of blue
and something we spoke of
long past the leaving
way past the morning
when silence bled through
when you fell
through these fingers
ran through my arms
on the way
getting back
forever we were
get me to somewhere
a roadside cathedral
tall as the pines
planted that day
remember
how nothing else mattered
but this –
an ancient blue crayon
we’d given away

words elude me
there’s bitter
on my tongue
for days
sometimes nights
i can’t explain
the way it is
ways i’ve forgotten
how to feel
tho lately you are near
and i can dream
of pages
where the pages end
lines to circumvent
ages
where my memory remains
folded into blankets
high upon a shelf
where once you were –
and i was yours
this way

words to congregate

lest i know
the way was always
more than i could reason
cleft for you
a home within my heart
tis only this
remembering
how it was
that afternoon –
held beneath
a span of wanting pines
wondered at this place
a beginning
waited long
love that could be measured
as a consequence –
a sigh

than breakfast
from your hands

golden into light
the crush of dawn
another breath
surrendered
i remember
how it was to want
for nothing but the night
to pull around
easy
winter blankets
jealous were the stars
for where we lay
feasting on a moment
promised were they all
another time
with nothing more to want
than everything

in shadows
where once the orchard stood
i close my eyes
and granny calls
my name
another place
of just beyond
i’ll get there when i can
seems smaller now
weeds beneath
the boards
save me back
take me here –
wherever lives ten thousand
i’ve forgotten now
how i knew their ways
press your words
against my words –
your sigh
a mystery
breathe me home –
a map
of memories

silken brocade
is stretched across bones

forgiveness
a soiled regret

still burned

to this place

a lullaby to squander
a patch
where once i lay
beneath the watch of orion
whispering my everything
holding nothing back
an ache or two
as trade for you
remember
the cost of love
is not so much
the cost to grieve
a treasure
where remains of us
a telling
i let the grass grow deep
a patch where heaven
intercedes –
took my breath with wonder
willing me to
scorn the gaze
of stars
