estranged

across
into this southern still
wherein the last wild goose
has flown –
stretched against the beating drum
distance melts to psalm
played again
on northern flutes
and meant to save
us all

alone
to pen these letters few
will speak of all I know
ancients leaving feathers
on the lawn
whistle as the lessons fall
eager to the rise
stories there
where graces come to word –
memories are stirred
the same as I

steady
as the twilight
perched upon the fence
watches past the time
where life begins to never end
sweeps to reams of maple
every mention
of goodbye –
lullabys we never knew
echo through the dark

rapture wrapped in arms
of evergreen

. . .

together gone

almost gone
the clover died
in one last dream
of heaven
and wrapped his chilly legs
around a sigh

waiting
as the autumn winds
were blown across his cap
and dried into
a fated hesitation

of one more time
of wishes blown
summer to his side
and gathered round his wools
for wandering

left to lie
in pastures
where the cattle know
his name –
stars are set
into the face of god

. . .

yet (and still) ~

yet and still

breathe
you said –
just close your eyes
– wrap your love
in mine
linger now in places
we’ve become
a blessedness
that needs not work
or words of understanding
so we are –
revealing us as one

slow
you said –
and even now
reminded I to breathe
as life
constrained to verses –
curs’ed rhyme
has searched me out
with empty hands
this heart where still you know –
changed the locks
but let the windows
swing

still
you said –
and such I am
made sweeter for the ways
– for paths I walked
barefoot and alone
decide for me a destiny
would test my faith
to fall
to close my eyes –
with reason here
to fly

love
you said –

. . .

those kind ~

spirit

of women
made stronger
by the crush of the wind
– what are left
of those kind
anyways

taught us to love
warned us to bend
cursed us
by looking
(in silence) away

forsaken already
the grievous report
of something made more
by distrust

whispered of places
Camelot ruled
– graces this world
has forgot

backwards
and still –
I come every time
forgetting againremains
what was never my lot –
a river of feathers
float on the air
crushed by the branches
in rush
to the sea

of white
honeysuckle
the hardest
of pearls –
hands thick as bark
beaded briar
whispers long buried
as story with stone
lacey white nest
of the earth

wing’ed the velvet
of once magic swords
pass as a thought into day –
stallions embarked
on paths cross the deep
nature foretelling
the depth of

our sins

ripples are tracing
paths –
thru the black
lost are the seasons
unspoken
 by name

babies are crying
somewhere past the dark –
stars feel their way
to the sun

. . .

memories

were only these days –
the weight of our life
a moment
surrendered
to stone
dying denied
the sweetest caress
are names – nothing more
than a measure
of bone

as years
left behind –
find their way
to another
a breeze through the window
where perfume remains
of a place
we were gifted
by love to let go
shall lie in the fullness
of hearts (can we know)

how many
how precious
the blossoming seed
will thrive
in the shade
where talk is allowed –
as our story retold
with the slightest
regret

is essence recalled
by the soul
living yet

. . .

always I am
marigold taxi
I remember the fever
was blushed on the berries
– thorns to my skin
breathless the trek
to a place
in the forest –
where sworn you would come
to claim me again

for every transgression –
another
I love you –
was consequence
weighed in moments
so sweet
hands spoke in quiet
of distances over –
where words came
unraveled
in mid-summer heat

the timbers
were prying –
as angels stood
watching
the giving of graces
one afternoon long
calmed by the weaving
of light through the branches
– a cool before falling
as the world
slumbered on

. . .

messenger

heaven pulls the
mountain –
from his fragile wedding bed
anchored by the river
to her song –
breezes haunt the tired soul
dragonflies to hover
stilled in place
remembering
our soul

one more verse
will cover me –
one more birth to fall
as waters move
around me in the cold
quietly – a soft amen
rustles from the trees
brittle leaves
dance atop
the foam

let indeed
the shadows shine
with mystery uncertain
swirls beyond
this wake of circumstance
magic lies
in wilderness –
bound by fragile thorns
journey on
and I shall find you
there

. . .

remembered
intriguing now
the bondage
of moors against the pins
a tapestry of features
silver spade

haunted by the wrong perfume
nested o’er our heads
awaiting time –
as winter winds to pry

the sleepless
from their slumber
the pigeon from her mate
ne’er thought to far
the object of her pine

fear conveyed in shifting
gathered grace
in letting go –
wings no longer touch
above the storm

. . .

flutters ~

kindred

fleeting blush
of butterflies –
eyes were never blind
strain the gypsy threads
undone by time

hopeful arms of bounty
yearn into
the way
was waiting greener
on the other side

when all we knew
of suffering
is where the parting fell
resting now
beneath the mossy page

nature keeps
no memory
of who was first to die
given up her pen
as flags were raised

spills her tale
as waters rise
to wash away our past
– flutters
neath a vast
forgiving sky
