graces

long the night becoming
in shadows of the dawn –
stars await their moment
with the sun

love remains unspoken
as a cooling autumn breeze
gathered now in arms
of evergreen

circles of forever
are writ in quiet there –
reminders of the passing
– not the end

whispers of forever
sit for ages with the light
in silent sweet surrender
we remember why we came

. . .

welcomehere

as one became
with longing –
and leaned into the light
was come before the dawn
to know me here
wrapped in quilts
of yestermore –
dreaming somewhere still
pressed against
the memory of a sigh

come to song
in silence sweet –
notes along the road
crest beneath
the sleeping blossoms there
sparkle as a moment once
reached beyond
the stars –
to gather our
reflection to the sun

here –
tho I can’t tell you why
or where the moon
is hiding –
a story yet untold
by tangled sheets
leave the realms of darkness
journey now to dream –
I’ll leave the window open
lest you stay

. . .

laureline
come the path
forgotten me –
as rivers carry stones
with memory of an ancient
water’s rise
in streams beneath
above the past
sentiment of standing
still as death
before the autumn lies

crush to sands
this still old self –
lost from all that was
wherever now the willow
does confess
with rings beneath
and tales untold –
breezes to recall
moments pressed into
her wilderness

. . .

weightless ~

going

of loss
the greatest measure
an empty sugar bowl
reminds me of a past
not really gone

of jackets
in the closet –
clothes I’ll never wear
weightless I’ve surrendered
to their style

crowded little cobwebs
hushed where
nothing did
tired whites –
are starched with getting on

of sorrow
kept unnoticed
by the world of passersby
flowers bloom
to colors
not yet grey

breezes lift me skyward
from paths of yesterday
someone speaks
but I don’t hear
a thing

beyond the pines

roll me down
against the stones
float my soul
to heaven
turn my eyes
to stary skies
most have never seen

I’ve heard a few
were painted
to ancient chapel walls
and wondered I
of fools
to never know

a blacker veil
wraps the edge
of city lights for reaching
diamond fields
unnoticed by the sun

fireflies
forgotten
by a wish that fell
one summer –
chasing dreams of magic
– lightning
to the ground

. . .

nightskirt

dreams the night divided
lives before
and since
fields are growing over
the memory of seed –
swallowed by the music
swaying side by side
red becoming
something more than hay

heaven flies
on outstretched wing
ten feet above the ground –
soars ten thousand miles
before the night
remembered these –
the way to home
sometimes the darkness bleeds
as longing floats
to clouds
above the sound

swirling silk
of old release –
a crooked line embracing
the mystery of life
so few can see –
monarchs flush the ancient pine
how nimble
– crouched the stillness
memorized returning
to all the nights
between

. . .

fire

beyond the realms
of all we know
another waits
in senses
forever bloomed
immortal breath of fire

the steady beat –
with skies to walk
and naught
a thought to tarry
reserving us
reminders to become

of markers left
and letters carved
into a place
we passed –
what joy to find we’ve wandered
close to home

another day
this way resolved
to sit a while
in slumber
forsaken to the night
– the weary soul

uncharted there
from porch to post
burning stars so bright
ships are tracing
slivers of the moon

backward to
the wishing well
where there you are
the same –
a light within the current
– sacred stone

Author’s Note: Inspired (in part) by the following passage from
Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver…

“As long as we won’t commit to knowing everything, the presumption
is we know nothing…
he did not claim that God
moves in mysterious ways. Instead he seemed to believe,
as she did,
though they never could have discussed it,
that everything else is in motion while God

does not move at all. God sits still, perfectly at rest,
the silver dollar at the bottom

of the well, the question.”

rebirth

distant drums beat sweet
echoes of woods never walked
eyes to strain the night

stories writ to skin
dreams to recall our longing
whisperings we hushed

a heart coos softly
of happiness retreating
the dove cannot change

a dawn breaks clearly
the ghost of feathered knowing
destiny becomes

ancient smoke rises
wonders defy our vision
 awaken new eyes

the day will become
when fire will burn too deeply
our spirits to mourn

. . .

eighteen
not quite ready
for dreams to understand
books with pages turned
as words unbound
poured into the seeking
of mystery
returned –

between the suns
eyes were closed
as life begun

werepartofme

knew it well
another place
as real
made more than this
remembered
resurrected me again
scribbled as a page
of rightful circumstance
living lost –
would ever real
make sense

or daisies bloom
to die
against the moon

smoke rings
rising somewhere –
names to taunt
my tongue
are missed of times
whene’er my pillow warns
of mornings spread
to fingers –
curs’ed light
to find me here

counting rings
and humming –
songs no one can hear

once upon

when the summer path
has turned to rust –
and wingeds line the trees
– content to stir
as echoes
to the breeze

were times between
the golden glow –
the silver face of green
a lowly line
succumb to time –
is crossing us again

winter wheat
and dirty feet
were given to believe –
the autumn moon
was never meant
to tell –

april blossoms worried
as june bugs found july
waters rose
beyond the bank
to wash away
the night

moments
to the mayfly –
as secrets shared
with mars
venus wears her dresses
just the same –

age recalls
the coming back
miles of lonely tears –
whiskey warm in jelly jars
– wishes
by the well

spin me of another
some sweet day
to come –
the sound of naked feet
on
polished stone

the shrill of laughter
climbing –
timbers much too tall
than e’er we knew
would find us here

– and will us back
to home
