in warmth
where the last of the sunlight
was gathered –
smothering snippets
lay fast by the door
and watched as permission
was given the rose –
fell as a shadow
of breath to the floor

as grace to seclusion
the running around –
as locks almost rusted in two
tasked as a hinge
fell away from the rest
and all that we held
by the passing into

retrieved
from our solace
as mittens and coats
wrapped velvet arms
through our own
choosing the path
so silent – our boots
when met with surrender
in moments alone

becoming to pass
as essence to wind
and breezes to swirl somewhere new
sunlight makes waste
of eternities planned –
as floors
without memory
of someone we knew

in the hush
before waking –
the sweetest of dreams
is spoken
as gold welcomes night –
names find a corner
for keeping our best
weaving a memory
of breath
into light

say my name
this one more time
the way you did that day
as shadows fell
and mixed with maple leaf

as echoes
just becoming
I would gather
from that place
and wonder more than why
the sunlight played

in prisms
of a rainbow
in tenderness (desire)
were memories I’d sworn
to never speak

of where to go
or will to keep
the notion of forever
a time no longer ours
no longer come

eternities
I’ve known a few –
but that one is my favorite
stretched to hold
a lifetime
more or less

remembered now
a moment
made from everything –
was given word
tho something more
unsaid

a shimmering
of sunlight –
reflection in your eyes
reminder of a place
I’d known before

say my name
this one more time
the way you did
that day

of fear
I have no memory –
but for passions i reserved
and truth i know
(as e’er i know)
something i can’t say

the sweetest bliss
is moments here –
the weather suits my skin
tho cold was never threatened
by delight

flannel suits
and velvet dogs –
to chase my chills away
something clear
to numb my yesterdays

crooked boards
to lean the porch –
squeak beneath the rain
where vines are twisted tight
against my tune

mountain laurel
let me go
as breath to fill my sail –
stars align to windows
of my soul

whene’er I walk
the sea at dawn –
and wonder to the waves
what sailor might have sailed
from here
with not a thought to save

as restless spills
and ripples wash
from me the past is gone
tossed upon
some distant shore
or glistened still with foam

for one alone
and waited me
the journey to defend –
a story almost written
we surely tell again

as breezes blown
across my face –
my dress of cotton lace
remembers still
another time
I came to know this place

before the day
where sunset burned
as brightly as today –
where twilight danced above
the tides
to sweep my breath away

as silence keeps
a softer name than e’er I dare
repeat –
forgotten as were
broken shells
left scattered at my feet

rise and fall
and rise again –
be swift my love to learn
of messages rewritten here
awaiting our return

across the way
across the map –
dark and deep and dear
sighs are falling
somewhere else –
to echoes living here

there are things I can’t say
to anyone yet
some admission of dying
one piece at a time ~
one crush of a breath
one season of death
and I can’t seem to call it
by name

the thief
and the bride
the willing young man
who stood in the drive
with arms open wide ~
reminders of daisies
white velvet sprays
and a spark to the eyes
said I’m doing okay

but I can’t seem to think
what I don’t want
to say ~
and there can’t be a place
for goodbyes here today

they’ll drive me to drink
and the river will flow
out beyond where I’m bound
to be going ~
I go

to be sure ~

Of places remained ~
as fate to becoming
this one (of so many)
held part of the dream
From a sense of belonging
were we found to be treasure ~
and knew (as we know)
of lives passed between

Of memories shaded
death becomes futile ~
as babies reciting
their stories of earth
Of distance once more ~
on roads so familiar
rivers o’erflowing with wondrous birth

Of moments no longer
the ways through the past
or flowers forsaken
to seed
When holding as one
to life just beginning ~
as mother and father
our children indeed

The last of illusion
was starting to see ~
as eyes worked as one in the dark
As breath of the greater
in coming thus far
as journeys back through ~
one soul to embark

Of truth reconstructed
from feather and blade ~
water washed over by stone
From dreams of the many
one night
shall return ~
with lessons and letters
from home

In beginning another
from places forgotten ~
were parts of the whole
without memory
of more
Of time when for nothing ~
the rest we’ll remember
awaiting the one
when beginning
before

as daylight creeps
where words concede
and I shall wait no longer ~
for thought to form
alliance with the page

grant for me
a moment true
when fingers gently folded
to still the pen
from breathing ~
tired verse

as one no more
than these to know
of hearts to ache
with sorrow ~
would be my final choice
to grant them peace

as echoes to the ages
vowels misplaced til then
and someone
not so lost
shall find me gone

replaced by verse
made different
without my thoughts to rest
denied the place
wings are lit
by word

of the sweet ~

how fragile now ~
this fleeting bliss
was passed
as once before
a kiss

as whispers gifted
words so clear ~
are ringing now
for all to hear

the glory come
from sweet amen ~
forgiveness undeserved
til then

when longing stays
the whole night through
will none forget
the things
you knew

for none can ease
the ache of gone ~
or pay for all
each righteous wrong

would e’er for love
a tear be spared
or moon concede ~
the night to share

don’t worry this
for moments passed ~
as smoke against
a looking glass

as stars made two
upon the sea ~
asleep in nets
of destiny

e’er page confess
this mortal song ~
shall wait my love
but not for long

surrender me ~

pour to me
the wonder
that is the forest song
and slip my tired flesh
beneath the boughs
bear me as the winter
gently to the spring
remembered come
the mountains
to me now

spill me
as eternity
against a stretch of sand
as polished to her mirror
were my ways
urge me
to becoming
as one with all I see ~
and rain me from the clouds
another day

as the morning
of vespers ~
a walk toward the lake
as a route neath the bridge
on your way

do you think of me
then ~
as your soul comes awake
and light spills
from heaven again

in the solace
of silence
the viligent verse ~
weaves into words
a reason to slow

misty blue skies
and I wandered this way
as near as the sunlight
to love

remembered of time
a dream such as this
of nights cursed by coffee
and miles

moved to a moment
of one standing still
do you hear ~
can you know
how I feel
