another mile ~

how do i get home
to the place
where we began
the lines are down
and i can’t see
the stars

was yesterday
we journeyed
not so far
along this path
e’en now the blooms
are breaking
for memories we traded

another mile
maybe three or four
til i am in your arms
i swear the moon
has come
to light my way

when passions
are rendered
and the last starling sailed –
when all I recall
of the summer
we loved –
is the flush of your skin
melded with mine
a view of the sky
through your eyes

as gifted this poet
moments so clear –
words without hope
to describe
the way your smile lingered
as coffee was poured
night making sense
of the day

when time
is negated
for sake of my heart
the curve of the moon
as he sleeps
when all i have left
of your voice
in the dark –
is passed as a wing
through the trees

what only lovers know ~

what benefit
is destiny
when all we do is pine
for another life –
another breath
some other choice
divine

a moment come
when words are met –
by a heart that fits
us so
is worth the price
for wanting –
what only lovers
know

there is no time
beyond today –
no break
beyond the trees
where life is lived
apart from here –
as truth resolved
to be

words you dared not speak ~

spare your
righteous discontent
(your choice)
to make it mine
where fault was laid
one summer night
(warmth)
beneath the pines
was then I took
of your first breath
(words you dared
not speak)
home
was ours for finding
I was you
(you were me)
for a time
sometimes much longer
than the flash
of one dark star
I knew the way would come
and you would go
miles beyond
the place where I might reach
to find you (still)
dreaming neath
an ancient stand
of pines

this day ~

this day
of all others
this shift in the light
a sweet celebration
aligned with the night
I’m not much for promise
tears aren’t my style –
but as dark
became morning
I drifted a while
to far away summers
and sweet sunny days
when someone spoke softly
and someone remains
blessed by the memory
of a kiss
and a prayer –
of wishes made whole
by the stars

turned to stone ~

i shall pray
for love to take me
as evening
pulls around –
cuddled me in green
a bit of star
i shall want
that you would wait
until my will
is turned to stone
a plea for grace
to fill this place
you left me
once
alone
i shall rage for truth
when none becomes
the way i knew
of you
i shall want of this –
another day
when all my days
are through

where we are nothing ~

burdens
I’ve endured
for the sake of one
more life –
another chance
to live as I have loved
to sail beyond
the silver seas –
your eyes become sometimes
enchanted by your smile
to be undone
burdens
not so heavy –
graces yet to trade
one thousand count
linens folded
round
a place
where we are nothing
but a promise
to remain –
as near
to breath becoming –
for this reason
I was made
