plastic roses ~

within the depths
of aging hearts –
are memories of love
though some a ways have gone
and paths grown thick

so few without
a name recalled –
for where they sleep (I wonder)
with pieces of my past
to resurrect –

in stillness now
a soldier lies
beside a fallen angel
while rows of plastic roses
grieve them gone

wherever grace be given
their silence warms the breeze
a kiss to seal
(stories left untold)

forgiven me
these rites of life –
might I their voices carry
o’er words another saved
of times to tell

bring them back
with tears of truth –
midnight recollection
of places come to light
within my own

let not them rest uneasy
or music be denied
a place to play
beyond the moss –
where lies eternal love

frighten me
the mirror was –
a friend before the light
when by the by
in shadows turned about
I thought of you
forgotten in the rush
to run away –
do you miss me now
in places you can’t stay
the roughness where the scar
was worn –
a curve beneath the bone
tears that filled my eyes
whene’er you smiled
spend with me
a moment more –
and beg me then to touch
the worst of you –
the best I came
to love

In the stillness left of standing –
dare I will you (come again)
as drenching rains
to save a crop of stone
so long ago the noonday
has burned across my brow
and yesterday has garnered
more than most

with all but one
of where you were
and where you’ve gone (away)
though someone thought they saw you
on the path we took as one
I wonder was I walking
there beside –

tis not so much for taking
as it is the letting go
though freedoms can been found
in both I’m told –
of destinies
I have no choice
but to speak into the wind
and pray my words will reach
the place you hold

for every one
another comes
and from their best intended
a life conspired by touch
(we won’t deny)
memories distracted
by the way you tie your shoes
and how is my eyes
are just as brown

something more
than one small thing
can change our ways (becoming)
and fade against the canopy
of what I meant to say
nothing stays so long
that I’ve forgotten
how it feels –

to look into your soul
and find my heart

from a tender place
love was offered –
not for much the way was come
cross the plains –
the lonely valleys
into the place
where truth was found

by the maiden
and the poet –
the prophet and the scribe
glaciers melted
each remembrance
of a battle without sides

of a house
where letters waited
in the set beyond the sun
and white caps cursed the river
for his ways –

when spoke of fields
he ran between
swarms of honey bees
locust came again
to learn their song –

we wondered
would it matter
if we found their words anew –
lyrics kept in books
of honeycomb

forgotten
every reason
for the places left behind
slept as moths
in sheets of silken cord –

gave the story over
to a blanket
in the woods –
promises grew wild
beyond the door

fences fell
as heaven raised –
lines across the dawning
names were met with silence
whene’er we gave our own

a place apart –
we could not speak –
was more than rhyme or verses
poems would be empty
for a while –

but somewhere still
the hive – she glows
with longing for another
sweeter now – the stories
of our love

were we ever here (I wonder)
sometimes I look for signs –
a tell-tale love that left itself in crumbs
ribbons worn to branches
smoke to hide the blue –

letters carved a season to the bark
pieces floating elsewhere
out beyond my sight

imagined I a place
where I retrieve
the message that was written
words as silence ring
but I remain no different
for the proof

wherein the vault of yesterdays
are photographs of me
a then I could not pass
to meet me here –

highways once converged
along a lonely stretch of dirt
tis not the evermore
I wished to know –
but something more than whispers
more than markers made

chiseled as a rite into the stone
reminders of another me
a time before I came
awaiting there for signs
I couldn’t see

I papered peacocks
o’er the roses
and moved the walls around
were facing south
the barn – to block the moon
but who am I complaining
to the gods
of northern lights
when shadows dare to grow
beneath the pines

who goes there
yet no one ever answers
though I swear I’ve heard
gossip after dark
listen – can’t you hear me
would they rather that I worry
fearful of their presence
on the lawn
who am I
I wonder what they know

do they haunt the night
to question where I’ve gone

remembered now
as time when time was lost
voices boomed from somewhere
I don’t know
plans were changed and schedules made
for consequence uncertain
I’d meant to stand
and watch your essence fade
but instead – it was the universe
willed another way –
and knew it then
was more than I could do
moments staring blankly
at the movement made by hands
tides were turning (backwards)
to the moon
eternal tears – immortal place
dreams of letting go
and wished I (more than once)
for one more life
for holding near (holding on)
pages to the wind
words (a bittersweet)
upon my tongue
unexpected destinies
changed by more than birth
forever penned a moment
to my soul

In the vastness that is life and creation, we are
connected one to another ~ everyone and everything.

Becoming one together as we return to LOVE.

We watch and we learn as little children, filled with questions
and wonder ~ for what has been (and what is still to be).

In this, we find our place.

(our sunrise)

before this purple sunrise
another there was then ~
as blue the sapphires seas
were made to roll
as black ~ the cape of diamonds
tossed two lovers to the dark
a silver moon made jealous
by the night

serenade of oil and ash
embrace of ancient winds
willows hear the story
of the tides ~
when on the banks we tarried
as one to moments made
life became of language
never knew

riddled me
a nursery rhyme
til I could barely breathe ~
forgotten everything
I knew before

before you came ~

more than this
I am not able –
to speak of truths beyond my own
to choose of all
the chance for losing –
paths unquestioned
(now) are known

wherein the moments
meant to claim us
can never (now)
be less than these
would e’er the sun
be sworn to shadow –
eternal soul
by love released

as cool to embers
wings to wafting –
nature comes to give us hope
a deeper faith
than just surrender –
burns beyond the light
we know

whatever time commits
for finding –
who I was before you came
makes no difference (now)
forever –
keeps the memory
of your name
