all I have ~

sweptinto

of winter still
the summer dreams
of nights in softest flannel
whispers folded secrets
warmed below

lazy morning shadows
said – I will again
take of these
my everything
of all I have to bloom

breathless
wakes the golden –

pressing down the dawn
clinging to a blossom
with memory
of snow

so easy ~

butone

in the space
where forever
took more
than a life –
hello seemed so easy
let go

a memory parsed
into measures of grey
hymns to a page
without word
were one to remember
a moment so sweet
as pulled
from the books
where history made

places to touch
now and then
even so –
like a spot
in the wood
surrendered to sound
– leaves speak a language
their own

knew us somehow
as a face
without name
eyes without cause
to recall
why we came

or silence beheld
in the space
of goodbye –
forever took more
than hello

closerstill

I’ve heard talk
of endless black canyons
carved of the places
venus took mars –

longing to reach
every touch yet becoming
more than a thought –
more
than we are

how could you know
of the color –
my dreams
or how far the journey
from branches
to bough

the strangest familiar
the lights
brighter shining
a course neath the cover
of fathers ten more

a drink –
made of laughter
our spinning around
left dizzy by song
we sang
until death

as the memory
of some other star
we let burn
no different now
than a moment set free
by the giving of name
to a sigh
long ago

became of the still
a place I will go
when the night pours
to canyons –
the colors of you

forgiven ~

returntome

beyond the still
of sorrow –
eternal bleeds the red
discovered as another
perfect rise –
forgiven us
the getting on
of running us away
beaches press
a once remembered shore
feathers float
as suffering –
was here we meant
to lay
tears are flowing now –
a wiser sun
than e’er could be
forsaken
by the breaking
passed between
– the river rolls us
backward
to the rain

. . .

the way of wish ~

fleeting

they’ve given place
a time I knew –
and ashes to the meadow
some nights
the wind blows backward
through the gale
reminding me of somewhere else
I stood a moment
longer –
and listened for a truth
I’ll never tell

for all you know
I wonder still –
how much of me is gone
the way of wish and reason sweet –
a path forgot to home
the same as when
we lingered
then –
with will for destiny

dreams
that I’ve stopped dreaming
a place somewhere
of me

would e’er the signs
be sworn to show –
or verses spilled just right
rhyming rules
in silent pools –
tis there I hold you tight
would circumstance
another chance
where’er our stars be crossed

ashes float
on northern streams –
alight with wishes lost

. . .

burn away ~

october

summer spares
the sleepy earth
carried as the spring
– was passed one day
between the noon and five
brighter my
illusion
of almost anything
I might have said
last sunday
as goodbye

made worse
for ever giving
what it took so long to say
the fields may burn away
beneath my bed
time has nothing
meant to keep –
begs us love or go
the winds
are sure to find me far
the last –
the best I know

there’s more than ache
in hurting –
more soul within the song
tho no one hears
but me –
don’t make it wrong
leaving left
to one last fate
– one more hold me near
the past is nothing
worth
the keeping
here

going

of worth
I have no season
no story left to tell
of roads I walked –
of lives beyond the veil
of streets
unnamed to history
a touch
recalls me still
where all I’ve known
of loving is revealed
into the page
where shadows fall
night birds weep and storm
into the swell where black
the locust swarm
with memory
of where I lay
and secrets I embraced
flannel sheets
are forests wrapped in lace
as once I was
remembered me
for reasons I’m not sure
kept within the circles
ancient sight
mystery of passion –
my wilderness afire
wings are raised
immortal to the night

. . .

Author’s Note: I’ve spent many a day
in search of an image for this, and have none to
show.  Only this.  Close your eyes – yes, that’s
the one.

rememberingme

beyond this sun
another wakes
with memory of the first
 – of ancient moons
made sweeter
by my thirst

beyond this light
a brighter way
than e’er I passed before
is kept awake
 – my dreams
of dreaming more

than once again
my love concedes
to plead
my case anew
reminders of a life
before I knew

returned by breath
a kinder truth
   than e’er my soul resist
  – beginning life
eternal
 from moments
such as this

scars

how many lifetimes
written there
in scars across my plains
aware the soul
in seas
beneath the sea

somewhere else
kept just beyond
the places I recall
comes from time to time
a memory

into these hands
undone –
these wrongs
some sweeter everafter
than I e’er I knew
my staying to absolve

were sin desired
to wake again
in living
swills of laughter –
fading as I am
to scars
unknown

fleeting

were moments
to awaken –
your voice upon my skin
as secrets
whispered low –
became my light

flush against
the almost life –
of somewhere
love awaiting
hands to touch –
words we lost that day

broken verse
as sunlight traveled –
caught by falling angels
shadows passed
to shadow –
one we’ll be

held aside
for reasons –
longing knows too well
light recalls
the sweetest night
– lifetimes
loving so
