she is three (bobbie)

of stories
I’ve forgotten
times and places
touch untold –
gave my heart (the way of graces)
left of every love
I know

another girl
another baby –
(now a woman)
pens the night
silver locks reweaving promise –
verses fell
by candle
light

into magic
I was given –
fragile moments to defend
(all I was)
I am remembered –
baby
woman
child (again)

. . .

Author’s Note: Inspired by a painting
gifted me by
a dear friend.

scars

how many lifetimes
written there
in scars across my plains
aware the soul
in seas
beneath the sea

somewhere else
kept just beyond
the places I recall
comes from time to time
a memory

into these hands
undone –
these wrongs
some sweeter everafter
than I e’er I knew
my staying to absolve

were sin desired
to wake again
in living
swills of laughter –
fading as I am
to scars
unknown

. . .

when now
the stars are clouded
by wonder
what is gone –
ships to sail
and other lives moved on
shadows spun
to silken web –
one more
might have been –
was left behind
and waiting for us
then

mysteries
decided by the setting
of our sun –
names were never spoke
above a sigh
touch beyond
the reach of hands –
secrets whispered still
– longing soars
beyond familiar skies

pages yet
unwritten –
await another start
spilled as sacred ink
where none can know
what of worlds
returning
where once a shadow fell
light before the first
we came to hold

what we don’t ~

near

Stillness speaks in words
I seldom hear
candles burn – scented yesterday.
The sweetest night was past
from places dear
another time – a place I might have stayed.
But silence knows the song
I sing –
barefoot in the dark,
waltzing past the moon while others doze –
closer to forever than the stars.

Was once confessed but met
with disbelief;
we’ve forgotten what it means to dream.
Caught in papers – there the evening news;
everything (and nothing) as it seems.
But I’ve discovered
hope in discontent,
moments found me lucid (eyelids closed).
Simple prayers I never spoke aloud
are whispered soft –
communion, no one knows.

From silver wings
that flicker on the lawn
past the purple glow of Al Jabba,
I’ve met ten thousand more
that have no names –
history betrayed their moment’s mark.
But for the dreamer,
once had walked alone
another shining moment we forgot –
caught in memory
and written there
time may have forsaken,
but we have not.

Between the ticks of ten and two,
all I am is come for me.
Twilight pulls the mortal world to bed,
and I pretend to let
the veil of slumber fall around
were only I so willing to
be led.
Would pass between the shadows
cast by misery and want
would rest and wake tomorrow —
nothing strange.
Complacency is petals wept
before the blackest swan;
hands are stopped –
eternity is changed.

And there, across the table
a familiar face,
eyes are met with knowledge
of the truth.
Presence finds assurance
in the noonday sun –
coincidence, a world denied the proof.
A fleeting smile, a knowing laugh,
secrets shared by strangers
candles burn – scented yesterday.
The sweetest night was past
from places dear
another time – a place I might have stayed.

Silence knows the song
I sing
barefoot in the dark,
waltzing past the moon while others doze,
closer to forever than the stars.

Closer to forever
than the stars.

sundaybest

of faded pearls
my grandma loved –
though where they came
uncertain
an unmarked box
the man brought down
one Sunday
after church

tied with dimestore string
proof
of someplace sweeter
another name for wearing
fit the same

as stockings
hats
and easter shoes
a blushing bride all over
reminded of a right
before her spring

onceuponadream

spin me ’round
this splintered floor
make of dreams some other
and slide me neath
the winter once we lay

with plans to keep
and prayers unsaid
forgotten to deliver –
a promise to the silence
hurts we rubbed away

remember me
to empty rooms
and something more
I wanted –
would stay the night
and not my touch
betray

foreverthis

sweet to my swaying
come home to my wine –
a long way
 forever
I can’t seem
to find
the note that you left
to the places
we lay –
would save us another
for falling away
surrendered
one sunday –
as secrets retold
to lie awake monday
with dreams taking hold
couldn’t be
what’s the matter –
can’t you see I don’t care
what of hurts
were just waiting –
a silence to share
as lifetimes made over
in moments of bliss
a note said you’re going
my touch
said you’d miss
a beginning just started
is waiting – who knows
what love
never mentioned
– is rain
to your soul

someday

beyond the blue remiss
of shadows
beyond the crow –
a burning red
asphalt ribbons
split and sprawling
warn the soul
of hurts ahead

last night’s curse
the morning lover
left with not a thought
to ease
promise made
of everafter –
want for life
but one to please

parchment petals
lacey fingers
brush aside the anxious veil
gracious grieving –
mixed emotion
lies we taste –
but never tell

flush to fear
against the strangeness
bitter sweat
of let’s pretend
hands to reach
and there forever –
longing falls to love
again

briefly

had I known
of another –
of times before this
where life was
revealed in shadows
of bliss
and spread into sorrows
one tear could divide
– as oceans were split
our fate to decide

what of this
we were keeping –
what of joy
shall we pay –
shall sleep in the moss
o’er the places
we lay

what blossom
is seeded –
by the ache of despair
shall burst
as a garden –
to fields unaware
of moments we came
or the ways
we once found –
how long was the journey
I wonder

sunrise
the same as it was
just before –
when last I lay down
this journey
to prove –

remembering now
to another
sometime –
as the road I was taken
returns me
anew

never change

what beauty
restrained
in that which you give
for others – the debt seldom paid
so easy the burden
made lesser somehow
for smiles left in passing –
our sorrows
to trade

what story exists
in promise divine –
is come in the balm of a friend
pressed as a salve
to the breaking apart
of all we have lost –
we gather
again

what honor
is held
in lockets so fair –
would blush even now
at her praise
let us bend to this silence
with thanks on our lips
for our blessing
in knowing –
this keeper of grace

as joys
we have garnered
what name do they say
a chair –
at the table they save
let them be patient
o let them not mourn
for moments forgotten –
in living forgave

what graces
without
the kingdom must be
when given us glimpse
of your light
what selfless compassion
were angels to kneel –
when round us they gather
as souls into flight
