when comes the end
and I’ve no reason
for keeping time
this way –

no choice of words
I might have said
given one more day

no space allowed
no higher road –
than this already run

when comes the dawn
I’m without rhyme
– verses
left undone

what then shall I
when without voice –
tell of love I knew

what words will I
surrender –
when I remember you

gathered mine

as witness I was
to the place we were started
to a place in the grass
once we lay
crushed by the stars
ten thousand years older –
than once I was your
faraway

once was a dream
you spoke of it often –
gave it a name
I adore
how is it now
I’ve replaced every window
and hung up my heart
by the door

carry me now
think of me sweetly –
as a soft silhouette on the night
saved to a moment
with all we’ve forgotten –
love seeking truth –
in the memory
of light

morning come

I’m getting on
with redbud
and whiskey –
somebody told me
a tale
just today
somebody mentioned
a path you’ve been taking –
and I’ve gone
out of my way

to find you
uncertain
on my way here –
a life just beyond
somewhere I knew

I’m getting back
to a time
of beginnings –
to a season held captive

moments
too few

I’ve no regrets
no bitterness wanting –
no plans for another
some other
to find

I’m getting on
with sure redirection –
missing myself
– your heartbeat
with mine

nearenoughtohome

in this moment
I remember
everything I came to know
the way the rivers
gather to the sea –
the measure of a rainbow
bending soft against
the sand –
a miracle
still happening
to me

I remember
every kiss –
every touch was ever mine
the echo of my name
within the dark
a rush of swallows sailing –
blind within their faith
breathing out the song
that is
my heart

I remember how it was
that first bloom within the snow
searching for a reason –
for a season
not to go

living scattered sweetly
across ten thousand years
I remember
every lifetime –
I would wait
to find you here

leaving

one begins another
a fall of ancient breaths
reminders
left in slumber
much too long
memory –
she’s fair enough
but keeps her secrets close
– cares only for the places
we belong

as disregard
for moments cleft –
how many yet to go
love remains
the best we have to give
permission for the coming back
to all we sought to find
– many dreams
with only one to live
