float
within these ethers
wake beyond this night –
to places where your name
is hardly known
where stories
of your coming
have not yet found the page
scripture without word
to touch the soul

steal beyond this moment
of remembering
your love –
flowers yet are blossomed
gardens great
grieved to weed
and held by vine –
let be and I shall find
souvenirs where passing
once you grew

message of surrender
tell them all for why you came
and I shall bare the truth
within my own –
voice of something truer
than music you
deny –

lean into the melody
become a violin

silently
as ancient breeze –
move against these chords
raise the softest hair
with verses sweet
memories of other times
whispers came to bloom –

lilac breathed into
the golden light

of moments
slowed becoming –
as the rising of the sun
ripples spread
to circles
left of dew

was destiny
forgiven –
to the places
I have come
as those to keep aside
with names I love

of frightened birds
forsaken flight –
dark where tears reside
daughters dream
in storybook of lives
they never had

silent as a sin
confessed
of memory set free
and with my own
in heart –
their song to beat

sleep again
in stillness
where innocence befalls
as feathers scored
against a sudden moon

tumble
with divine reproach
longing to the sun
dreaming still the night
of wings on fire

daylight spills
as fallen peaches
summer shades
seem muted now
wrapped in sleeves
of moss and denim
dreamed me back
this way
somehow

been a while
since last I saw you
someone said
you weren’t the same
who can ever know of freedoms –
moments passed
tho none to blame

brittle branches
bent for dragging
tempted not this time to go
back into the trust
forgotten –
western skies
are clouded so

goodbye sits
in favored places
tempted by the dawn to rise
one more spring of everlasting
sworn to picture –
close my eyes

echoes
left by Sunday morning –
gloves to hide
these signs of age
lost the will
for understanding –
else the dreamer
dream always

in a moment come
such singular respect
to endless possible
promise
and quietly
swelled up hope
suffice to stretch
the ring and still
the questions asked

bitter as the poison tongue
tired (again) of tasting
anoint me with something new
as rare as I
in anticipation
of one more forever
a sun almost risen

leaning beyond
this chasm
of familiar unfamiliar
and thought not far to leaving
for the air hangs still
with hello
and supper not yet cold

. . .

Stay as I’ve wanted
to folded remembrance –
as an essence of perfume
I no longer wear.
Of far away places
I can’t seem to loosen –
their hold on my being
was written
somewhere.

As the day I was born –
the night of conception
when someone spoke softly
my name to the trees.
Flowers were open
as evermore waited –
the echoes of loving
my own to release.

As ripples of forest –
bursting with cedar
boxes lined up to the right
of the door.
Memories passed by the way
of the garden –
where golden white shutes
are planted once more.

Whispers of promise
and who I’d be someday
when all the rest failed –
I’d come round to home.
As wings breach the distance
e’en now in the darkness –
someone waits easy
the long night
alone.

here am I ~

for every time
a time so true –
as moments without measure
to be again
remembered then –
our presence now
our treasure

a softer sigh
was never heard –
though times before
I waited
as one within a passing sure –
would lifetimes still
be traded

by rushes
to the yellow morn
silver to the hay
as glories gathered by the vine
to steal my heart away

of twilight swoons
where nightbuds bloom
petals tender fall –
as anxious for the memory
of dreams
to hold us all

by stillness wrapped
this thought so sweet –
as I – with grace divine
was bliss to me
(eternities)
beyond the reach
of time

softest auburn flame
burns hotest mid-july
and fans an ember still
from days of yore
when fiddle met
with banjo
banged a basement floor
as two by two
their feeble hearts
were worn

beneath a shaft
of fading light
vanilla burnt to butter
said I love you more
than once a night
lips to hover just above
the meet of wing to wonder
arms to reach
as buttons came
undone

eyes lit up
with wondering
where the dance might take
and would the lantern last
the coming dawn
pardon me the moving in
dirty floors forgiven
a bell hangs silver leaf
above the frame

tempted claim
of candlelight
violin and whispers
memories of turning round –
two by two
by one

of a day
unremembered
(not the same) as before –
and numbers turned over
as a note by the door
of the things
worth our missing
when the light burned away
and darkness came long
to recover our place

as we stood
with our arms round another
(we were)

of these stones
to be written –
and dates (we don’t care)
what is real
of the world we created (one day)
reality burns as the quiet takes hold
(and no one remembers)
your name

as music
resounding
from distant refrains –
dance cut of cedar and pine
wishes (laid down
by the side of the bed)
and love
sworn to find us
(divine)

who are you (now)
I can’t say for sure
was there ever a time when I knew
the light(ness of being)
the fire burning (yet)
as wilderness grew
in your place

still (as the one)
forsaken (no more)
as a word bent to ear
(on the ways) to become

I shall live as a story –
of how we were then
(when I lived)
as I loved –
you (remember) again
…

in warmth
where the last of the sunlight
was gathered –
smothering snippets
lay fast by the door
and watched as permission
was given the rose –
fell as a shadow
of breath to the floor

as grace to seclusion
the running around –
as locks almost rusted in two
tasked as a hinge
fell away from the rest
and all that we held
by the passing into

retrieved
from our solace
as mittens and coats
wrapped velvet arms
through our own
choosing the path
so silent – our boots
when met with surrender
in moments alone

becoming to pass
as essence to wind
and breezes to swirl somewhere new
sunlight makes waste
of eternities planned –
as floors
without memory
of someone we knew

in the hush
before waking –
the sweetest of dreams
is spoken
as gold welcomes night –
names find a corner
for keeping our best
weaving a memory
of breath
into light

whene’er I walk
the sea at dawn –
and wonder to the waves
what sailor might have sailed
from here
with not a thought to save

as restless spills
and ripples wash
from me the past is gone
tossed upon
some distant shore
or glistened still with foam

for one alone
and waited me
the journey to defend –
a story almost written
we surely tell again

as breezes blown
across my face –
my dress of cotton lace
remembers still
another time
I came to know this place

before the day
where sunset burned
as brightly as today –
where twilight danced above
the tides
to sweep my breath away

as silence keeps
a softer name than e’er I dare
repeat –
forgotten as were
broken shells
left scattered at my feet

rise and fall
and rise again –
be swift my love to learn
of messages rewritten here
awaiting our return

across the way
across the map –
dark and deep and dear
sighs are falling
somewhere else –
to echoes living here
