destinies

remembered here
the ways I came –
and where (for you)
I waited
stood the night
until the morning bled
blush against the darkness –
swirled within my glass
burning shade of passion
rolling crest

warned of times
the tides were low
as ripples washed in circle
while here below
a league of silver fins
made their way to places cooled
with pardon (to deliver)
– just before the final
(first) amen

fathers watch
from storied boughs –
mosses weighing heavy
foretold with gentle swell
of love’s release
glowing ponds of sacred light
dried to ancient stones
– as life creating
(rivers to the sea)

quietly
the world awakes –
sleepy eyed to wonder
returning to the blanket
(where we lay)
our burdens by –
beneath a sky of lullabying cedar
– (loved) as one by one
the stars
we named

started

it’s not so hard
the letting go –
for all you find
instead
kingdoms caught between
the lowly vines

briar cuts
but for a while
and then the healing comes
love remains
e’en when
the hurt is gone

take to heart
the broken ones
take to soul
their needing –
grieve for those who lost
before they found

a life removed
a path declared
shall lead us each the same
into some other light
– another way
to home

somewhere I do

honeysuckle ribbons
are wrapped
as time with string
and squeezed against a plank
of aching red
dusted hallelujahs
are buried by the post
and rusted
to the latch
just like they said

we’d never make the papers
never knew our time
would end –
struggled with the map
unspoken shame –
as day old letters
fade into the memory of a box
– and photographs
don’t hold me
quite the same

a kiss
the taste as summer
a touch the same as true
gentle eyes
were watching me –
as I was watching you
like who would know
the stories
weren’t for telling
where we’d be –
or where we started over
might be here –
you came for me

as roads to trace
from east to west –
were moved as north I took
a ticket in my pocket
found me there
let me know
if e’er the stars
are moved from where
I loved –
as honeysuckle moments
are pulling
at my hair

the window is held open
by a breath
of morning breeze –
where wrapped we were by one
another time
yellow blossoms break
across an endless
open sky –
robins sing
tho worry not
for rhyme

talk

of oceans
might you tell me
of shores I never found
holding there –
your last goodbye
to know

messages untangled
as notes
forgot to send
strains the moonlight
leaving
sands below

held against
your mercies
pardoned by your grace
prayed for some
where’er your tears
might fall

purged
of ancient rivers
rushing toward the sea
bathed in pools
of jasper –
winter squall

of timbers
other paths were crossed
with stories of regret
– passed along
as ships
without a sail

merchant chafed
as some suspect –
before the turning home
winds of fate
were destined
to prevail

the shallow dish
of wading pool –
glimmers bright your blue –
came the hottest august
to your kiss

memories reflecting
on a sweeter
somewhere now –
swords are melting
cool against
your mist

waiting word

broken strings
and one more rhythm
words are torn apart –
someone thought
it perfect
for the dance
seems for me
the work around
is always more than rocking
barefoot suits me better
e’en when the boards
are bare
quietly the sing-along
of magic to my leaning –
take me home
to close my eyes
where have I to swoon
kiss and tell
has served you well
tho who is left
to notice
the band is gone
but still the music
plays

. . .

let me ~

 waited

it seems of time
I have no say
of where and when
the leaving
of souls held dear
I wish I’d held
a moment more
to grieve

these gifts of life –
of laughter merged
to make of me
a locket –
of grapes
the same as winter wheat
frosted by the wind

where am I
and how to say
of all the things worth keeping
love survives
the harshest storms –
blossoms yet
as seed

down the years
as one made more –
by touch with me
to tarry –
let me love
or let me sleep
beyond this futile dream

carry me
e’er splinters press
a crush of silver locust –
born to curse
the coming back
– the stinging of the blade

. . .

Been gone awhile,
when fate was come –
tho wasn’t much
for turning home.suddenly

Dashed every (starless) dream
to the jagged edge of longing,
spent more than most.
Was love
took everything.

How did you find me –
with sense
I’ve long forgotten.
A name restored from silence,
rolls as thunder
down the pines.

Was there alone,
save for time (my one companion).
And put away my pages,
lest my sin some stranger find.

Life was waiting
his comfort now to come,
and counted me as blessings –
rocked to sleep,
(our love) awake in dreams.
Back against the morning,
eyes on the horizon –
no thunderbird to guide me,
nor evermore
to save.

Weeds and cocklebur –
a parakeet’s abandon,
grew between the slats
gone to seed (so long ago).
Sorrows met with joy –
both gathered there together.
Am I different
than remembered –
every story (still) I know.

Told when harvest moons
(are made much colder)
taken hold some other place
(another night so dear).
Some promise made (to might have been)
rouses me from slumber.
A roof that needs replacing –
keeps me ever (wanting, here).

Your kiss to steal –
your welcome home.
Were you to dream of me,
willed me back
(always I feel) the same.

Seven lives
and sixteen rivers –
forsaking every pleasure,
forgetting every loss
(and who’s to blame).

As seasons passed
between (the times) to hold –
Was our
forever moment –
never lessened (never old).

. . .

prepared for you ~

because

could ever I imagine
another such as this –
dates no longer written
to a memory
of verse

parting ways
within the space
of one more time
remembered –
where I was
when first I heard
your name

seems a while
tho sometimes more
than numbers to recounting
steps along the way
I might relearn

prepared for you
to letting go
where traces there are none
– graces held together
by my love
