eternity
was gifted me
this morning
just at dawn –
when reason floated
pearl against the light
pastel pages
fluttering
as books were put away
stories almost ended
now begin
between the place
of getting by –
and knowing the unknown
pathways open wide
to worlds apart
fragile as a robin breath
pushed into the day –
as somewhere now
revival hymns
are played
stones
three hundred forty two
around the barn
and back
sorted once by size
and now by time
measured as girl to grow
knee-high to the mountain –
sings (tho she can’t sing)
of holding on
beauty keeps
a patch of grace –
queen anne’s lace and lilac
sheets are frozen stiff
upon the line –
winds are blowing
cool across these memories
of May –
tender now the calling
back to spring
. . .
