keeper

stars are holding still
the wishes of my youth –
winking just before
their will gives out

loosed against an endless stream
of southern girls
and crosses –
heaven wears a face
I know by heart

rock me here
beneath the gleam –
where venus turns to notice
– wishes every one
are burning true

closer

more than once
forever came –
as close as night
to pasture
reflecting life
as shadows to the pond

I lie awake
and listen –
as somewhere now
beginning –
eternity is rolled
upon her side
she listens as I whisper
songs she thought
forgotten

dream me home –
one more night
of psalm

flightrisk

southern wings
have stayed the north
forgotten by their kind
as far above
another land
they roost in foreign skies

warmed against
an almost there –
but who can say
for certain
where the blurring lines
were crossed again

maples weep
where butterflies
hang on silver summers
rains are come
to wash their dreams –
to wash their dreams
away

graces

long the night becoming
in shadows of the dawn –
stars await their moment
with the sun

love remains unspoken
as a cooling autumn breeze
gathered now in arms
of evergreen

circles of forever
are writ in quiet there –
reminders of the passing
– not the end

whispers of forever
sit for ages with the light
in silent sweet surrender
we remember why we came

edge of night

how strange
the pull of nothing
when nowhere seems so far
and closer still –
the pieces left
of then
folded between pages
margins almost gone –
ink is dried
and fingers
have rubbed thin

the start
of just beginning –
the memory of more
lacey lace
and I don’t know what for
the roads were come
across and down –
through these southern
skies
painted me a somewhere
almost now

round about

in the space where once
a longing –
was nursed
a hungry cat
and edges there were left
to tell the world
of where the end
was ending –
who would tend the grass
and where the towels
were folded
with the grey

a rocking chair
and angry rings
to curse an ugly table
a crystal bowl
would hold your habits
well –
reminders of another
took my breath
for supper –
turned the bed
and never said
a thing

verses read
all over –
some I can’t pretend
are meant to hold
another fool
as I
forgotten to a season
passed me through
November –
cooled my brow
and left my longing
fire

beyond this night
of china plates
of fragile whispered dreams
teams of unseen verses
dot the sky

take me there
the morning
carried higher still
the lowest branch
where evergreen made home

burst my heart
with longing
gratitude for just –
tis all I know
of living
but to love

lock the gate
and clip the wick
tell them I was lost
found my way
rewritten –
a golden sycamore
– resurrected map
while I was sweeping
up the yard

made my way
found my way
somewhere still they listen
somewhere yet
– a violin at dusk

feed my cause
bleed these hands
mark my days to mayfly
but gather not
to sheets
of almost done

brush against
the aching –
where scattered now to names
– gentle souls
tethered by my own

carry me
the winter
to the hiding place of love
pick the tiny flowers
tie their hands
gentle as a breeze to bring
essence to a song –
baskets left for filling
on the porch

shatter me
the eastern ridge
wash for me an ocean
ten thousand silver fins –
a carousel
build for me
a nothing more
than places I have loved
but leave me not
to wish upon
a star already sailed

coming back
I swore one time
to find another way
but still I dream
beyond my dreams
recalled

I stir against the
silence, writing in the dark.

onceuponadream

spin me ’round
this splintered floor
make of dreams some other
and slide me neath
the winter once we lay

with plans to keep
and prayers unsaid
forgotten to deliver –
a promise to the silence
hurts we rubbed away

remember me
to empty rooms
and something more
I wanted –
would stay the night
and not my touch
betray

beyond

once before
you almost knew –
I could see it in your eyes
familiar as the sunlight
to your face
warmest realization
of places come and gone
miles from here –
another time
and space

immortal truths
to resurrect –
mere moments more or less
tho somewhere now –
we weave in destiny
searching through the rubble
for pieces almost gone
– threads are pulled
across and back
for me

almost once
and even now –
I wonder just how close
the stars were realigning
to our will
e’er tides be turned
that old blue moon
watching yet the same
ages passed –
forever
standing still
