forgotten to dream ~

atlast

forever of taking
a step beyond night –
where heavenly angels
take tea
with the stars
warmed by the dreams
I’d forgotten to dream –
and given to name
what I knew
of my fears

to choose
without choosing –
a touch nearly gone
yields to these hands
a sweet ancient
way –
reaching to bloom
in colors of song
as one now the map
of soul
unbetrayed

reason to go ~

shush

leaves without color
tho falling the same
are cut thru the light to the heart –
stilled by the comfort
of sorrows unknown –
and others
we carry by name

a little white river
and old woman feet
stories of long ago taking
as fields were to burn –
still lacking in grace
forgiveness
a place –
tho we never knew why

there would come
of our promise
a reason to go –
and miles without knowing
the ways we had come –
watching the sun
til the stars fell between

sheets we let dry
on the ground

nothing I can say ~

wherestill

how tender
my returning –
a dreamer to the end
narrow ways
go dark
before the dawn
wielded me another truth
story holding still
weary grace
within my silence sits

calm
against the clawing
as ringing now
the bell
tho somewhere I am come
in search of light –
suffering a shadow
raked into the fields –
blazing red in grief
for winter golds

marry me
before I say
will be my last surrender
a garden of intent
is wilted there
cut the vines and lean the fence
near to worlds
of waiting –
as light to pierce
the only name
I wear

aging lace ~

knewmewhen

for years
I thought to leaving
some rush into the night
would heal my heart –
and bear me to the light
a silver moth
of aging lace
surrendered to the flame
circles ’round me
gathering
the same

as was before
some other me –
some witness I can’t speak
of love I know
would beckon me –
beyond the realm of sleep
as stones were laid
beside me there –
as purple paper worn
now and then –
are light
before the morn

with wonder to the reasons
why I keep
what I can’t find
when all I’ve known
is leaving you
behind
peacocks march
a broken porch –
smoke rings chill the dark
lines are drawn –
and still I run across

the moment
of permission –
the corner where I stood
wishing you
and swearing you no good
but for me
a truth unspoken
gives pause most every time
I find the gate left open
while making up
my mind

gathering dust ~

gathering

of the knowing
this is something –
(something more than we pretend)
the way is still
and here we are again
courting everafter
as the price for letting go
roads to gather
dust –
into our soul

patterns into stories
wishes into lies –
as songs to sing
(if e’er the lights go out)
held against the southern red
melted into clay –
secrets
spun with words
to kiss away

choices made
and losses lost –
burdens floating free
became a star
and there (I sew) your name
warm into my wilderness
breath against my sting
flowers float
(as silence)
into wing

part of all we knew ~

still

beyond the mossy comfort
of tear-stained I love yous
leaving settles
cold against the night
hands to fold in reverance
for moments come before
hearts are made to ache
the soul’s delight

how it is
the whole becomes
a part of all we knew –
stripped to bare
our reason for remorse
angels watch while lonely mourns
whispers born of bliss
sorrow keeps a plate
of fortunes sworn

the ways to know
of all we lose –
much the more we keep
as dreams resolve a heaven
we know best
sleeps beside the willows
rattles now the winds –
love returns to soothe
our restlessness

falling forward
somewhere else –
leaned into the fold
as there the names remember
us again
lonely needs no lesson
of where we passed the time
or voices ringing silent
o’er the bed

rope

last a stinging
vine of verse
was wound around my heart –
words were let
(remember how they hurt)

of solace kept alive
once more –
the strain for making rhyme
left me waiting here
– another time

of winters snowed
behind us –
a day (almost the same)
beneath a sky
this blue
I held your name

forgotten now
the meter –
breath (before the break)
one more verse
– was more than I
could take

relieved by our falling ~

wherehaveIgone

sorrow came by
a week ago sunday
and left without saying a thing
stole me a kiss-
from a bouquet of summers
cut from a garden
of red wintergreen

chiseled from stone –
were steps I remember
– laid to my fate
by running away
shone through the dark
as phosphorus wonder
and pulled through the weeds
by home –
the long way

so easy to tire
the moon hardly matters
words save no passion
for places between
gone is the ache
relieved by our falling
as sunlight to shadow –
when promised
to dream

yesterday

of treasure
long forgotten –
like the way you said my name
whispered there
and gathered to my heart

as lilies by the april flood
dandelion and ash
venus trapped beneath
the milky way

swore the end
beginning –
steps above the waves
grief beyond the ache
of circumstance

the beat of something
stronger
than the ringing of desire
the tender sound
of reasons
not to go

where the skies ~

did you know

when I am lost
to find me –
along the ways I roam
soaring past the rocks –
beyond the stars
counting points
defied to strains
of wilderness I keep
floating without chord
into the dark
laced as silver minnows
willow tied to elm
evergreen reminding me
come down –
wishes now are troubled
sailors seldom knew
where the skies –
and where the shore
was bound
