last I knew

there was a place
we were going
never knew from where
we came
our dreams were old
but dying meant
we’d never leave again –
we could take of these
and leave the rest behind

there was a spot
along the highway –
we stopped just yesterday
and counted miles
stones and stars –
the distance to today
never stayed for long
the holding on
was more than we
could take

was a breath before I caught it
pushed away

there were words
denied of meaning
thought denied a place –
wings the width of shoulders
held together
strings of grace

there were maps
to match –
and ways to clear
cedars filled with swallows
and blue –
the deepest blue
beyond the trees

never looked the same
when looking back
recalled another morning
when cotton floated
low above the fields

it seems that way
the way it was –
and I with love to squander
could have sworn I held your hand
and closed my eyes

eternity
was always more
than I could dare imagine –
when a moment stretched
to take of time –
the only me
I know

. . .

afterlife ~

knowingnow

berries wake
as redbirds
sacred course to fly
cutting stars
to velvet
afterlife

ancient spires
our secrets hold
souls to love before
sorrows wept
in folds of silent joy

whispers
guard a faithful moon
lovers turn into
the still of dreams
forgotten to us
now

felt aloud ~

little duck

water settles
deep my sin –
as seasons over stone
as dreams of drifting
far above –
another to atone

green
the crush
of emerald banks
lace against the clouds
echoing a moment
of tender
felt aloud

keeps me here
reminding me
of days –
tho none the same
truth is sworn
to silence
and ne’er forgets
my name

. . .

missed me ~

poetry

wonder
steals my breath away
waiting for the sun
was sure to come
– tho still I held
the night

closer than
a midnight prayer
urging me to go
out beyond
the meadow –
into flight

thought
you might have
missed me
when the oldest star
came round –
a warmth of something
feels the same
as love

twilight sweeps
across the lawn
where earlier
the dawn
slept beneath the trees
and dreamed
of us

. . .

a place of silent fame ~

cropped-mymeadow.jpg

with gratitude
my soul becomes
remembrance of a name –
the taking in
til I am filled –
a place
of silent
fame

to resurrect
these mysteries –
much more than I can say
a truth denied
the words as yet
shall ring
some other day

. . .

memories
are sewn to me
petals on my sleeve
a song –
a music
sweeter than the night
proof when morning finds me
drifting back
from dreams –
nestled in a sweet
embrace of light

comeagain names
already known
maple
rose
and sparrow –
called to us
reunion of the saints

. . .

yet to find ~

openwindows

when lost
my way
of knowing –
as purpose fell into
a something worth revealing
– there was you

storied
by resistance –
left somewhere behind
a place to go
I’m going
yet to find

words
to draw you closer
a breath we shared
one day –
clouds were drifting
pulling us
away

get me back
I’ve come before
to know of this
somehow
the way we loved
another time
tis now

. . .

love I keep ~

surrenderme

beneath the pull
of shade
to shape
of cedar into pine
forever rests
within the love I keep
fretting not eternities
wasting not a sin
drifting on the current
of my sleep

secrets wear
the seeker down –
whispers tell the most
verses bind my soul
to worlds unknown
sworn to tears
the snow returns
cool beneath my feet
worried not
  to memory
of stone

slow the wake
of ancient wills
to roll on velvet banks

and there I lie
with want
another start
to save me from
this certainty
wilderness of home
swarmed into the forest

of my heart

. . .

paths of silence ~

rememberme

consequence
of faded troubles
evergreen against the black
listen long
no need pretending
was here we meant
for coming back

into this light
as one with darkness
take of all
but take my hand
walk with me
these paths of silence
close your eyes
to understand

were there rules
would care of living –
what of blue
this night defines
hereto words
the poet whispers
time is but a state of mind

love made less
with broken verses –
stories writ as ink to skin
tears foretold
of truths beginning
willing us to live
again

someoneIusedtobe

neath the clutter
of september
the roof is hanging on
weathered there as passion to exhume
soft a bed of feathers
wilts within the storm –
where watches now
the blue become
the moon

pardoned
every reason
for where and when we were –
easing into everything
we fade
passions wear to wanting
for years beyond the ache
how we were
before this mess
we made

lashes
blink a sure escape
sorrows without shame
locks were never meant to keep the door
crouched against the memory
of almost all we had
maybe I’ll remember
something more

than ashes
in my coffee –
longing come and gone
dishes without match
to all we said
leaving gets forsaken
by the want to stick
around –
sheets no longer fitted
to the bed

. . .

two steps back ~

graces
come the stars
ten billion nights
as east by west
was taken
thought I knew
of times we passed somewhere
adrift in space
recalled to grace
were moments here
to wander –
light is pulling candles
from my hair

nursery rhyme
of borrowed time
two steps back and forward
as wilderness –
so sweet the letting loose
when sailed beyond
my favored moon
colors dream of me
life is love –
with evermore
to choose
