words are offered
unyielding –
scrapped from pages
divine tho they be
moments
split open
and scattered
are gift to the soul
with comfort to seek
verses and
poetry
rhyme sometimes raw
as blood turned
to ink
by the page
by the fall
who will remember
how it was then
we wrote
without thinking
without feeling
at all
what was meant
unintended
as a line spoke aloud
as truth
we were hoping to breathe
who shall give voice
to some other
we were –
poetry left the heart
to receive
. . .

my fears
are unfounded
you cannot escape
the verse
where my heart
keeps you safe
a lock never chiseled
a key you have kept
long past
the moment
for pulling away
to wonder
how close
meter could fall –
and what might I do
should you stay
. . .

when echoes
are the only proof
of words
we said that day –
a blush returned
with mention of your name
how many times
the pull of lines
have made for you a bed
a place where you might linger
as every note
is read
I’ve given rhyme
a bit of time –
and still
I find you there
caught between
a poem
and a prayer
a weight of verse
your touch – a place
committed to a page –
returned whene’er
I reach for you
again
. . .

from time to time
I reminisce
o’er lines
I never wrote
truths I dared not share
tho no less true
longing spilled to pages
meant for gentle eyes –
an open heart
with space enough
for two
worthless rhyme
you know me now –
with nothing
left to say
poems stacked in boxes
cupboards tight
love betrayed to silence
grieves the dying word –
an empty page
and evermore
to write
. . .

I have not
permission –
this breath to allow
visions
how sweetly
they come to me now
when I had
forgotten
the warmth of your hands
– the touch
of your fingers
to mine
pages and pages
scattered by rhyme –
letters like leaves
falling down
love resurrected
from indigo blood –
thought
seldom spoken
aloud
