seduction

parse to the falling
– the taking
of dreams
‘cept for the one
I can’t understand
of winter come clean
in light
neath the pines
a shimmering moths
endeared by the snow

forgotten
the senusuous pull
of the flame
– and reason
the colors of pewter
and smoke
silken illusion
of places we loved
are folded by word
to the edges of night

parse to the falling
– the taking

ballet

cooled to dust
the ways behind –
are written (new again)
of times before
we passed
along –
as secrets to the wind

tho never clear
(or spoke aloud) –
as words our trust forbade
crossed the heart
(that was my own) –
forevermore
to trade

for moments
(this) so precious few
eternities stood wait
as gardens wilted
(one more time)
the bloom
of heaven’s gate

let go for none
or sink to hide –
as tender places still
remembered now
the ways of love –
were destiny (fulfilled)

as ashes melt
an even tide –
or dodge the churning reef
where clings
to sands immortal –
our fainting disbelief

were souls
to find redemption –
a path
already known
life (beyond the one we live)
shall bear us
(one day) home

Today, a break from poetry to tell a story – a reminder
of the ways we belong to one another.

Yesterday afternoon, I was pulling into the parking lot
at a shopping center, when I caught a flash of movement
at the back end of a Goodwill Trailer (you know the kind – a drop off).
I steered in that direction and as I got closer, noticed
the movement was a small rabbit. I’m not sure what he
was doing in that particular (un-nature) place, but he was
definitely a kid. He froze when I stopped the car and for moments,
we watched each other.

When another car entered the lot, he took off – a bullet
across the blacktop.   I wasn’t sure where he would go.
I mean, he was in the middle of town,  and somewhere between a
gas station and a burger joint. I saw him stop when he reached a
patch of grass and I assumed he was nearing home
(or home as he knew it).

I drove probably another 100 feet before stopping to get out
of the car. I glanced back in his direction and saw two large black
crows were chasing something.   I don’t know that it was him, and
suspect it wasn’t since whatever they were chasing seemed smaller
(or at least smaller now that I’ve had time to reflect)….

– but the thought of him being caught was unbearable. I popped
my trunk, dropped in my purse and grabbed the tire iron, before taking
off across the parking lot. It’s been years since I ran so hard
and screamed so loud.

The birds seemed to have cornered whatever
they were chasing, but just as I let out my last scream (yep……..with
all I could muster, ‘nevermore’), the thing they were
pursuing darted between them and under a dumpster. That seemed
to be a sign for them and they took off (or took off to the roof,
where I assumed they would watch and wait for the
re-emergence of their prey).

I cursed them a bit before walking back to my car. I was proud of myself,
but on the other hand, I pondered. First, it must be tough being God and
keeping an eye on everything all the time. Second, I’m not God; as He
would have allowed nature to take care of itself (which is exactly
what was happening even as I came charging with the tire iron).
And yet, (third) I was there, and if there’s One who knows me, it is
God, and He knew I could never turn away from that bunny (good thing I
didn’t have a slingshot in my trunk).

Not sure of the bunny’s name, but I now call him Will (Goodwill)…..
and I am confident that the next time we see each other, it will be a
joyous occassion.

Always, we belong to each other.
Let us never (even for a moment) forget.

Love….

of all I am
you are a part
a fisher in the grain
a ribbon tied –
of spring brocade
of light within the stain

of you
I know –
though none would say
the ways we came to be
knowing not
the day or time –
you’re path would cross
to me

power

black ballerinas
of feathered acclaim –
swim as ten thousand
prayers
come to light
songs of surrender –
psalms of just now
I knew
as you knew
where the night
would fall down

to swirl
as a memory
almost forgot –
when held for too long
in the gentle
somehow
scratched into cedar
carved into word –
laced by the leaving
to turn
one more time

the dawn into
slowing –
a pausing of truths
swept as a shutter –
of black angel wings
– one in their beating
eternities here
are folded the sky
– as a rush
into flight

briefly

had I known
of another –
of times before this
where life was
revealed in shadows
of bliss
and spread into sorrows
one tear could divide
– as oceans were split
our fate to decide

what of this
we were keeping –
what of joy
shall we pay –
shall sleep in the moss
o’er the places
we lay

what blossom
is seeded –
by the ache of despair
shall burst
as a garden –
to fields unaware
of moments we came
or the ways
we once found –
how long was the journey
I wonder

sunrise
the same as it was
just before –
when last I lay down
this journey
to prove –

remembering now
to another
sometime –
as the road I was taken
returns me
anew

never change

what beauty
restrained
in that which you give
for others – the debt seldom paid
so easy the burden
made lesser somehow
for smiles left in passing –
our sorrows
to trade

what story exists
in promise divine –
is come in the balm of a friend
pressed as a salve
to the breaking apart
of all we have lost –
we gather
again

what honor
is held
in lockets so fair –
would blush even now
at her praise
let us bend to this silence
with thanks on our lips
for our blessing
in knowing –
this keeper of grace

as joys
we have garnered
what name do they say
a chair –
at the table they save
let them be patient
o let them not mourn
for moments forgotten –
in living forgave

what graces
without
the kingdom must be
when given us glimpse
of your light
what selfless compassion
were angels to kneel –
when round us they gather
as souls into flight

nightskirt

dreams the night divided
lives before
and since
fields are growing over
the memory of seed –
swallowed by the music
swaying side by side
red becoming
something more than hay

heaven flies
on outstretched wing
ten feet above the ground –
soars ten thousand miles
before the night
remembered these –
the way to home
sometimes the darkness bleeds
as longing floats
to clouds
above the sound

swirling silk
of old release –
a crooked line embracing
the mystery of life
so few can see –
monarchs flush the ancient pine
how nimble
– crouched the stillness
memorized returning
to all the nights
between

fire

beyond the realms
of all we know
another waits
in senses
forever bloomed
immortal breath of fire

the steady beat –
with skies to walk
and naught
a thought to tarry
reserving us
reminders to become

of markers left
and letters carved
into a place
we passed –
what joy to find we’ve wandered
close to home

another day
this way resolved
to sit a while
in slumber
forsaken to the night
– the weary soul

uncharted there
from porch to post
burning stars so bright
ships are tracing
slivers of the moon

backward to
the wishing well
where there you are
the same –
a light within the current
– sacred stone

Author’s Note: Inspired (in part) by the following passage from
Flight Behavior by Barbara Kingsolver…

“As long as we won’t commit to knowing everything, the presumption
is we know nothing…
he did not claim that God
moves in mysterious ways. Instead he seemed to believe,
as she did,
though they never could have discussed it,
that everything else is in motion while God

does not move at all. God sits still, perfectly at rest,
the silver dollar at the bottom

of the well, the question.”

started

it’s not so hard
the letting go –
for all you find
instead
kingdoms caught between
the lowly vines

briar cuts
but for a while
and then the healing comes
love remains
e’en when
the hurt is gone

take to heart
the broken ones
take to soul
their needing –
grieve for those who lost
before they found

a life removed
a path declared
shall lead us each the same
into some other light
– another way
to home

the window is held open
by a breath
of morning breeze –
where wrapped we were by one
another time
yellow blossoms break
across an endless
open sky –
robins sing
tho worry not
for rhyme
