mondays

of mondays
I’ve had many
some gone before
I woke –
took the paper
left the puzzle worked

burnt my favored candle
and cursed the grain of wood
became the bed –
one night
became my all

I’d never leave
no sense pretending
I would sell
these ragged sheets

who are you
and where’s the magic now

silence
makes me want to cry
laughter makes me horse
for helpless I am moved
to keep it all –

a dozen eggs
and one pound more of bacon
I won’t eat

twelve across
is not the word intended –
but everything
I love
has made me fit

once upon

when the summer path
has turned to rust –
and wingeds line the trees
– content to stir
as echoes
to the breeze

were times between
the golden glow –
the silver face of green
a lowly line
succumb to time –
is crossing us again

winter wheat
and dirty feet
were given to believe –
the autumn moon
was never meant
to tell –

april blossoms worried
as june bugs found july
waters rose
beyond the bank
to wash away
the night

moments
to the mayfly –
as secrets shared
with mars
venus wears her dresses
just the same –

age recalls
the coming back
miles of lonely tears –
whiskey warm in jelly jars
– wishes
by the well

spin me of another
some sweet day
to come –
the sound of naked feet
on
polished stone

the shrill of laughter
climbing –
timbers much too tall
than e’er we knew
would find us here

– and will us back
to home

. . .

in the beginning ~

destinies

remembered here
the ways I came –
and where (for you)
I waited
stood the night
until the morning bled
blush against the darkness –
swirled within my glass
burning shade of passion
rolling crest

warned of times
the tides were low
as ripples washed in circle
while here below
a league of silver fins
made their way to places cooled
with pardon (to deliver)
– just before the final
(first) amen

fathers watch
from storied boughs –
mosses weighing heavy
foretold with gentle swell
of love’s release
glowing ponds of sacred light
dried to ancient stones
– as life creating
(rivers to the sea)

quietly
the world awakes –
sleepy eyed to wonder
returning to the blanket
(where we lay)
our burdens by –
beneath a sky of lullabying cedar
– (loved) as one by one
the stars
we named

mercies

faded white
the promises
I swore to never lose –
though sometimes
I can’t move
within my skin
backward through the
coming back –
onward to the place
where standing now
is standing still
in time

april seems
a world away –
and yet another morning
is pushed against the feelings
I’ve almost
but not forgotten
and eyes
to scan the edges
of a world so few have known
orchids bloom
in shadows
where the darkness
goes to dream

. . .

trusted

on the wake
of eternity
blue casts a shadow
where time keeps the past
without room for restraint

poised on the page
of sweet revelation
of all that I am
but a handful of grain

so tell me
your stories
write of the reasons
and who held your sorrows
to light for a while

of voices returning
by way of the bark –
and paths cleared anew
by the wild

thrill me with tales
of mysteries starting
books without words
and stars
without place –

of night owls
and herons
nesting as one
in a strange yellow bush
by your gate

tell me you’re leaving
but hold me just once
the way
(you remember)
to keep

I’ll build a fire
at the edge of the night
a reminder of time
‘lest eternity
sleep

stilled

before the last
was melted –
robins in the snow
silence took the place
of sweet surprise
before the month-old babies
were tumbled
from their arms –
before the dream
became the best
there was

of verses
spun to linen
– as lines retraced
by heart
poems found
in pieces
never rhymed
late nights in the kitchen
habits pressed
between –
was more than we forgot
the morning come

marmalade
and I won’t tell
how the story started –
it seems the wind
has taken
all I know
branches bent
against the roof –
sometimes
I hear you calling
poems fill the shadows
as robins melt
in snow

wonder rests
in sheets
of softest denim

would steal away
the sorrows
from the night

guards the road
we failed to take –
some other magic morning

streamed
beyond the reaches
of our plight

going gone

was a whole lot better
then
they said –
the best of times behind
but the tank was full
and someone said
‘let’s go’

there are lines between
ten thousand more –
and days before the ocean
can crawl upon the windshield
with her lies

beg me to
surrender –
every secret I been sold
of empty eyes
and bedroom skies
I know them –
seen them fall

one winter’s eve
when frosted there
the dashboard cracked
beneath –
a sprig of holly
leaked into a song

can’t remember now
the words
you wrote me
down
lullaby for one –
I watched the stars

pass beyond the city lights
dinosaurs and
darling –
tell me there’s a heaven
where we go

. . .

always I am
marigold taxi
I remember the fever
was blushed on the berries
– thorns to my skin
breathless the trek
to a place
in the forest –
where sworn you would come
to claim me again

for every transgression –
another
I love you –
was consequence
weighed in moments
so sweet
hands spoke in quiet
of distances over –
where words came
unraveled
in mid-summer heat

the timbers
were prying –
as angels stood
watching
the giving of graces
one afternoon long
calmed by the weaving
of light through the branches
– a cool before falling
as the world
slumbered on

. . .

our one ~

here

of ways
I came
you taught me
found me here before
remembering
the honey
was your kiss

forgotten not
your secrets
whispered to the wind
– flowed beyond the window
of our one

your light
for moments given
as words were pushed away
reflecting me
into your eyes
of moon

gather me
I asked you then
still to wait an answer
how long to keep
the night
beyond the dawn
