there’s a softness
to surrender ~
a strangeness to goodbye
our cup of sand is gone
before we know
before was come
the call to go ~
we bend beneath our tears
counting nights by in-betweens ~
moments unto years
and so it is ~
unknown before
(so clearly now) we see
the ways we came revealing
our will ~
our destiny
adrift on time
denied of space ~
as one (reserved) for this
the universe remembers well
each memory of bliss
fear will surely rob
the soul
of reasons to begin ~
as bittersweet
the first goodbye
when salted by our sin
Author’s Note: Inspired (in part) by the quote ~
“Why didn’t I learn to treat everything like it was the last time.
My greatest regret was how much I believed in the future.”
Just got Barrymore’s words on mind; “A man is not old until regrets take the place of dreams.”……& the image is so soft a surrender…Bows to your style..
Peace & Light
Oh, Mira…….I hadn’t thought of Barrymore, but agree. Almost always, the regrets are not for things we did, but for things we didn’t……. Watching stars in the rearview mirror ~ forgotten now their names. Thank you, Mira. As always, you warm my heart!!! Love you, Bobbie
Savoring each precious moment–such a vital life lesson to enable us to walk in beauty and grace, always!
Indeed, dear Rose. I was just visiting with you and believe my comments have (once again) decided to bypass your port and dive directly into your spam folders! But always, I will find you…….. Thank you for your light. ~ I love you. ~ Bobbie
Love this poem and the message, Bobbie! I have to share this with someone who desperately needs to hear it (besides me). Will get to your other posts later — am in the midst of deadlines! 🙂 Love, Dee
😀 Well, if you were planning to share with me (since I need it too), take note that I’ve read it. 🙂 Love you, darlin! ~ Bobbie
I am made speechless by your message and its beauty! Love it Bobbie!
Thank you so much, Wendell. This message changed much in the writing (as I likely did)………. Thank you for the gift that is your presence here. ~ Much love, Bobbie

Thank you, dear one. Your kindness is light on my evening. Truly. ~ Much love, Bobbie
one of the most beautiful messages a poet has ever written, … and my friend Bobbie wrote this. Linda
……Oh, Linda………….but you were part of the love that wrote it to me. That I know. Thank you so much! ~ My love, Bobbie
May I be the last on this list to say what a beautiful message this is ?
….always
xo
Paul
As long as you’re on the list………..that’s all that matters to me. Thank you, Paul. ~ Love, Bobbie
Beautiful. I have been there, too.
By the way, the quote, “Why didn’t I learn to treat everything like it was the last time.
My greatest regret was how much I believed in the future” is from ― Jonathan Safran Foer, Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close
Thank you. I had written it down, Barry, but had left off the author’s name………..but the quote was one I needed to remember. Thank you so much for your kindness. I think we’ve all been there ~ in the shimmer cast by tomorrow. Love, Bobbie
