vanilla and wax
pepper to peaches
feet up on pillows
making light of the moon
masquerade eyes
(though nobody) watching
let lace be my anchor
(get me back soon)

coffee
(come closer)
the music of wishing
plays when the twilight takes hold
vaporous stream
of words into darkness
glide beneath
aged indigo

blue breaks (invisible)
feathers are falling
forgotten the lure of far away skies
souvenirs passing
as heartache to hemlock
(something there moving)
the universe sighs

parallel worlds
of whiskey and wormhole
locust and lizard
with glories entwine
of places I may not
remember (tomorrow)
another for keeping –
this one suits me fine

Paint and canvas
here to paint me
red against your blackest night.
Fair to feathers
floating upward –
words into your silence soar.
Breath to warm
each chill surrendered –
hope tied up in ribbon.
always sits in boxes
tissue paper hearts.

I keep forgetting
why it is –
I keep you in the dark
when every time we talk
you make me smile.
Warm as Sunday biscuits
a schoolgirl once all over –
yesterday don’t matter
where we are.

Just the thought of you
returning –
year old maps to show the way.
Roads may get me nowhere –
I won’t miss.

Stay the night
and tell me something –
where you were
and why you came –
where the rivers take you
when you go.

Mountains fall
to reasons left between –
here I am
and you a part
of places I am better.
Line by line –
writing in the dark.

dragons here I planted ~

where was I
to wander still
in places I was missing
turned around
to find my path again
smiling without reason
didn’t see the raging storm
did I dance the same
(I never danced)
you know that now
by stories I’ve rewritten
within the bounds of love
forgetting everything
I knew before
returning life
relearning joy
were sins too hard to carry
not a one could leave
except as I concede
there were dragons here
I planted
to another time (I swear)
hyacinth
and honeysuckle vine
was I planning then
to come again
to lie in beds of splendor
to soar above a field
of queen anne’s lace
adrift somewhere in knowing
evermore remains for me
swept along
on life’s imagined wing
how is it I remember
every past forgiven now
the beauty I became
when I believed

here you are
the same
tho something more
(than then)
grown restless
where the truth was (hid)
some green
was growing purple when
the road was new
a ribbon
spooled into the black

we dreamed in shifts
all we had
rolled upon our back
we’d find the rest
with plans to
change the world (someday)
would give them more
than they imagined
(more than we could say)

we traced the webs
between the stars
counted stones and steps
fourteen hundred thirty two
before the sun was dry
most nights
was not another there
silent but for tears
(the crickets cried)

for days we walked
forgotten
by the need to speak –
language came undone
in circles
(never missed)

your boots were old
before we ever started
(did we choose)
but fit you like the grey
beneath your brow

a crooked smile
broke my compass
(every time)
would take your hand
and wade into
unknowing
rivers cold as blue
washed my name away

time was nothing (more)
than one direction
how far to the nearest
feather bed –
a postcard held the world
in little pieces
the rest could see
(not enough to understand)
more we wouldn’t give

the universe
was waiting us
though sworn to never tell
lies beneath a postmark
four days old

as I have loved ~

Dare I not to love you
as if you were twilight or centipede,
daylight or prose.
Moments flicker few
and far between
as slumber into sleep  –
As jasper polished black
by worlds unknown
sparks to fly as evermore reclaimed.

Tis not for me to say aloud
as I loved you whole –
a secret stirred
between the heart and soul.

Dare I not repent my longing
to the eager page,
vacant but for lines I’ve worn away.
Awaiting this confession
of tomorrow’s loving winds –
scattered now
the seeds of yesterday.

Speak I not of passions spent –
I lived as love before
or worlds to come –
a past so few have seen.
I know you have.
and not for me to question why,
was not the first to come
and I to know.

Remembered as a promise
someone made to lie.
Dare I not to love as love defined –
the sea into a thimble,
breath into a briar –
strained  to strength
none have known – but I.

I love you still
for murmurs passed
beyond this crystal realm –
as wisps of forest carried to the sea.
A tender flower blossoms
in secrets of the veil –
forever comes in place of destiny.

As I have loved you,
love me here,
as fragrance seeks the breeze
where none shall know my suffering
but onyx,
shale and bee.

A long way back
without the strength to know –
of wisdoms
unashamed to speak –
winter finds his love
in sheets
of  sleet,
and snow …

once again
and at that age
when poems came
were writ for none –
searched to cupboards
nearly bare
the river fell as harvest wore
pressed to meadows
dusty shelves
initials scratched
now worn away
came for me from places far
lighting branches
all the way

soft as skin
by silence cured
as lane to lane
my words removed
secrets scattered as before
and I to listen
from the grave
where lips are sealed
of every one

was not for me
the rhyme was learned
or for the prophet
come to seek
we are the last forgotten sands
came not for stone
their fire to keep
a lonely night without the past
pages whisper to the floor
voices rising from the dust
recall a bloom
I wore with lace

silver key
of leather charge
a house unnoticed by the wind
was not the book
I left behind
but somewhere else I meant to be
when at the age
I thought to leave
but knew not where
the path might go

who would miss me in the fall
who would love me
in the spring

look at me
what remains of love’s design….
morning splashed
mascara bleeds
in passions  left behind

look at me
dressed
in winter socks and lace
silver strands
a locket wove —
from souvenirs displaced

look at me
do these eyes a future tell
was yesterday
a price too much —

this looking back —
our hell

look at me
for a while —
let sorrows come
between the past
was yours — now mine —
were days denied
by none

look at me
when ivy steals your kiss
when lilac scents
a purple sky
will we find time
for this

look at me —
destiny — we proved again
mornings passed
into the sun

shall light my nights
’til then…

story so familiar ~

As promise given
soul to soul –
as sunlight to the shadows –
would for the truth
I burst into a flame –
and leave my mark of cinder –
charcoal
memories etched –
How could I know
the rest of me
was you

Before the past
is ever passed
as futures to uncover –
a moment there
pretending not to be –
A breath in time
but I confess
forever stretched to fill it –
leaving thought
to keep the days
between

Eternity –
a place began
by whispers sworn to silence
Dare I speak
and hear your voice again.

Words can never garner
a story so familiar –
you close your eyes
and I resign to sleep

communion ~

Stillness speaks in words
I seldom hear…
candles burn – scented yesterday.
The sweetest night was past…
from places dear
another time – a place I might have stayed…
But silence knows the song I sing…
dancing barefoot in the dark,
waltzing past the moon while others doze –
closer to forever than the stars…

Was once confessed but met
with disbelief;
we’ve forgotten what it means to dream
caught in papers – there the evening news;
everything (and nothing) as it seems…
But I’ve discovered
hope in discontent,
moments found me lucid (eyelids closed)…
simple prayers I never spoke aloud
are whispered soft –
communion, no one knows…

from silver wings that flicker on the
lawn…
past the purple glow of Al Jabba,
I’ve met ten thousand more
that have no names…
history betrayed their moment’s mark…
But for the dreamer,
once had walked alone
another shining moment we forgot…
caught in memory
and written there…
time may have forsaken,
but we have not…

Between the ticks of ten and two,
all I am is come for me…
Twilight pulls the mortal world to bed,
and I pretend to let
the veil of slumber fall around…
were only I so willing to
be led…
Would pass between the shadows
cast by misery and want…
would rest and wake tomorrow —
nothing strange.

Complacency is petals wept
before the blackest swan;
hands are stopped –
eternity exchanged…

And there, across the table
a familiar face,
eyes are met with knowledge
of the truth…
Presence finds assurance
in the noonday sun…
Coincidence, a world denied the proof…
A fleeting smile, a knowing laugh,
secrets shared by strangers…
candles burn – scented yesterday.

The sweetest night was past…
from places dear
another time – a place I might have stayed…
silence knows the song I sing…
dancing barefoot in the dark,
waltzing past the moon while others doze,
closer to forever than the stars…

closer to forever than the stars…

was fate succumb to autumn
and woke with vowels and rhyme
a bud had bloomed to poetry
from syllables and vine
from twisted braid
of weed and verse
seeds undone by rain
essence made by longing
we willed to grow again

between the slats
along the way
on paths no longer trod
meadows
where the soul was not forsaken
(loves me not)

the slightest dream
when nurtured sweet
by kindness unopposed
shall garner us a garden
lemon trees and yellow rose
crown to crown
as birth to birth
silence swarms
in emerald wave
the rarest bloom we never see
was given us to save

this place of peace
this silver gate
dragons lured by pearl and drone
shall honor still
(he loves me)
as violets slumber on
