lifetimes
since the first hello –
seasons fell to season
and I can
ne’er recall
the taste of snow

or perfume
spent on clementine
jasmine in the spring –
lullaby every cricket knows
silver thread
a fiddle weaves –
wing’eds flying blind
sail me now
the way they know
by heart

by distance
of a lowly beat
measurement of soul –
secrets lost somewhere
above the tide

morning comes
disguised by those –
forgotten it was night
but living as a moment
such as this –

the lowly time
of only times –
who shall proffer more –
than rivers flowed
we called
by other names

honeybees
and cedar trees
needles
nests
and nothing
the grace of eden
stirs within the still

guard us now
the knowing –
eternity is come
as heaven fell to earth
while it was dark

. . .
