softest auburn flame
burns hotest mid-july
and fans an ember still
from days of yore
when fiddle met
with banjo
banged a basement floor
as two by two
their feeble hearts
were worn
beneath a shaft
of fading light
vanilla burnt to butter
said I love you more
than once a night
lips to hover just above
the meet of wing to wonder
arms to reach
as buttons came
undone
eyes lit up
with wondering
where the dance might take
and would the lantern last
the coming dawn
pardon me the moving in
dirty floors forgiven
a bell hangs silver leaf
above the frame
tempted claim
of candlelight
violin and whispers
memories of turning round –
two by two
by one
That’s hot… the moon breaks all mathematical equations & two become one..:)
Much love
Somehow I knew you would love this one, Mira……. 😉 Glad to see that I was right! ~ My love to you, Bobbie
What a beautiful image, and the dance is a wonderful finishing touch. Loved it.

Thank you, Paul. I’ve held to this image for a long time, just waiting for the words that could tell the story. Good to know they both have a home. ~ Love, Bobbie
“when fiddle met
with banjo”
Looks like a match made in heaven. I could almost hear their “conversations”.
Thank you for sharing the beauty of your writing.
Thank you so much. My grandfather was a profound card player, but was also a master with dance, fiddle and banjo…….. His heart was a celebration of life!! Thank you. ~ Much ever, Bobbie
So very stunning and awe-inspiring! Lovely ode to the most precious of memories, may there be many more to come to life by your beautiful spirit, heart, and mind!
Every day, every hour, every moment………..love suprises me, life surprises me. Indeed, may you dance today dear Wendell, if only with the cat and the shadows! ~ Much ever, Bobbie
