I wish I had held
to moments more dearly ~
to songs that were played
on the breath of a sigh.
I wish I had watched
as wonder unraveled
and slept when it ended ~
a thought passing by.
I wish I had prayed
and waited my blessings ~
as sure in their coming
my delight when they came.
I wish I had dreamt
long past your leaving ~
and woke to a morning
where love still remained.
I wish I had spoke
when the words
were still tender ~
their silence remembered
to places I go.
I wish I had listened ~
did you speak of forever
in rhyme before reason ~
and wanting to know.
I wish I had gone
when the going was easy ~
the lessons to linger
not much to confess.
A road that was fated ~
the way back
forgotten.
My chance for redemption
not bartered for less.
I wish I had known
the real of what mattered ~
were moments pretending
or just passing through.
I wish I had held
a little while longer ~
e’er time steal the memory
of wishing for you.
What we want is always more powerful than what we have. Want keeps us moving forward, what we have keeps us looking back.
Ahhh, the life we live and the life we dream (maybe even another we write)…….All a part of the life we know! But you’re so very right. There is nothing quite so appealing as the thing we can’t have. 😉 Thanks, Seb. ~ Always, Bobbie
I love both the prose and the gorgeous melody of this, just beautiful!!! Love!
Thank you, my dear and gracious friend. I love you…….. Thank you. ~ Bobbie
