the pathway sometimes narrows
for a moment – only fright
for what might be
eluding me
beyond this lovely night
would light ahead
be guidance
to a place I left behind –
or saved by wings unwilling
to alter space and time
remembered something
more than life –
more than kisses known
sunlight warms the frozen dawn
memories of his own –
proof of love
surrendering
the last cool breath of May
strength to bear the burdens
of innocence betrayed
beyond where someone listens
for a name
(a sound so sweet)
are echoes where a heart
was known to beat
no getting back
nor going ’round
just once and one more dance
lights beyond the best we willed
betrays our circumstance
Pursued indeed. Why is we run again? I long to be caught.
Isn’t that the trick – to chase until we’re caught?! 😀
Precisely.
And so we honorably and rightfully mourn the loss of an especially beloved fallen one!
Indeed, for the mourning doesn’t make us less. Sorrow only remembers unselfish acts of love. Always, we are in the places we loved. I’m so glad you like this, Rose. ~ Truly, thank you. ~ Love, Bobbie
I really enjoyed that opening line, it has so many connotations and possibilities, which is ironic given that it’s a narrowing path!
Thank you, Vanessa. Don’t you find that’s true? What seems like a narrow path isn’t at all because most likely, it’s not crowded which means it can become whatever (to take us wherever) we want. 🙂 Sounds quite lovely, doesn’t it? ~ Love you, Bobbie
I love this line Bobbie “…are echoes where a heart was known to beat…” We remember, and see the empty space that was theirs, and we should never forget. xox
Dearest Jeannie, there are no empty places when it comes to love. There may be less material presence, but the spiritual presence is greater such that every space is filled ~ every longing seen as blessing rather than curse. ~ Love you, Me
Beautiful poetry, Bobbie! I especially loved this stanza:
proof of love
surrendering
the last cool breath of May
strength to bear the burdens
of innocence betrayed
I found it so enchanting; a cool whisper in my soul and a stir of so many emotions, but gently and softly enough so you could hear them and separate them, not letting one take precedence over another. Great writing!
Thank you, Angela……… I can aspire to nothing more than to move you to a place of love and peace….. I am honored by your comments. Thank you so much. ~ Much love, Bobbie
excellent and beautifully written poem! This and so much more is what took my breath away! “just once and one more dance lights beyond the best we willed betrays our circumstance”…Love, Linda
……your kindness warms my heart. Thank you, Linda. ~ Love, B
