the rain falls gentle now
though still the thunder threatens
and blackest night
is framed in light somehow
remembering a moment passed
when all the world was still
birds were gathered silent
on the line –
their quiet so consuming
there was something surely come
when first a breeze
ran coursing through
the pines –
as heads were turned
and hearts were stopped –
the sky
a swirling flame
my hair was blowing (arrows)
til I was almost blind
but in that space
of nothingness –
uncertainty of signs
a voice was heard so clear
and I was saved
another time –
for another day –
another moment’s grace
when the winds will come
to steal my breath
away
Enthralling verses, showing the change from calm to turbulence, to calm again. Love the words “The quiet so consuming, there was something surely come”. Also love how the havoc of the wind is described as “space of nothingness”, and I could feel how hair beats against one’s face in the wind, like arrows. Very lovely.
Dee, I’m so very glad you liked this. It was written at a four way stop on the road home one day not very long ago – shortly after tornados had passed through the area. Anyone who has experienced them knows that absolute calm, as if the world has slowed down in anticipation of the fury……… Thank you! ~ Love, Bobbie
I knew the poem had something to do with a tornado! 🙂
LOL! Of course! 😀
Birds gathered silent on the line… Can totally see that image in my mind, lovely. BTW, I recommended someone come look at your blog on Twitter earlier today as his poem reminded me of your lovely romantic style. If you want to know who, see his blog cianphelan.wordpress.com
Thanks, Vanessa. I will definitely check him out………. I’m so glad you like this (and am humbled every time you stop by). ~ Love you, Me……..
wind, wonderful. I loved the birds gathered silently on the line, the pause of total silence and the “uncertainty of signs”. Just a great poem and experience that you take us through as your witnesses. Well done! Love you, Linda
Thank you, Linda…….. In the area where I live, that stillness is as much of a warning as the sound (of a freight train). I’ve often wondered it if is the same still that precedes devastating events, or if it will be the silence before the end of the world (as we know it)……. It’s as if time stands still, and you can hear a robin sigh. Your kindness is treasured. ~ Love, Bobbie
