How long had he been broken;
seems the whole world wants to know
why so many saw him empty,
and so many let him go.
Was it the school that let him wander,
or the doctors who saw no fear?
Was it another fateful message,
a cry for help no one would hear?
And so we move along and onward,
looking still for one to blame,
that we might recognize the broken
and tag them soon insane.
But no one ever stops to question
what they could have done if given light.
Could they have reached beyond the darkness,
to touch the hand of wrong with right?
There are no laws that will protect us
from that which looms beyond the mind;
no stop of guns or ammunition,
will be our golden cure to find.
Only love can ever heal us
from broken hearts and broken lives.
Until compassion finds the courage
to go beyond where comfort lies.
Just one soul that stirs in darkness
for that which knows their will to touch,
shall erase the mark of sorrows
when love becomes more than enough ~
to hold our grief and hold our pardon,
to hold forgiveness for things undone ~
to hold the seeds of true compassion
to heal ourselves, the broken ones.
Author’s Note: This was originally penned in April 2007,
following shootings by a lone gunman Virginia Teach.
But it applicable to more than one ~ whether it is
a Town Hall meeting in Arizona, a youth camp in Sweden,
or a movie theatre in Colorado.
~ We must never forget that we belong to each other.
It’s the first time I’ve seen this but it’s beautifully written. Nothing but brutal truth here, Bobbie. It’s a message that people need to more than just hear, but accept and do something.
Yes, dear Paul. If we spent even half as much time on love as we do figuring out who to blame, we’d be ten thousand lifeyears ahead of where we are…… Thank you. ~ Love, Bobbie
it’s complicated. its a beautiful poem and the essence of love and understanding tenderly written/ it is wise and healing to forgive, there are many other points to consider concerning victims of violence, war, abuse….It get very complicated, Love, Linda
I agree, Linda. I suppose I have to believe that love isn’t complicated, and the problems only come when we try to make it so. But yes, there is more truth than one ~ more than one heart to break in the process of healing. ~ Love you, B
Very moving poem, Bobbie. Each of us is broken in one way or another, the brokenness of some more acute than others. Like shattered glass, the broken cause pain and heartache to themselves and to others. Love is so much needed like rain in a parched and needy world.
….yes, Dee…..like truth. Is there more than one? Surely, but sometimes we spin our wheels denying the truth (as if that would make it less true)….. You’re an angel. Thank you. Love, Bobbie
&Love is the way when dead looks every other way…
Love & Light
Indeed, Mira………. Just as dark is the absence of light, hate and anger are the absence of love. I’m sure there are cases of pure evil, but most often it is a common blend of misunderstanding, ignorance, prejudice and abuse. I pray for us all. Thank you, Mira. ~ Love, Bobbie
The origin of this poem is so very, very sad. But the message is powerful – you are always an inspiration to me, Bobbie.
Oh, Nessa…..I have been hoping to hear from you. All the comments I’ve left in your port seem to have disappeared which means they are in your ‘spam’ folder…….. I was crushed thinking that you would imagine (even for a moment) that I wasn’t with you. I hope you can find them because I’ve continued to comment even though I knew they weren’t being seen. If you can’t find them and need help, let me know. My email is tornadoday@hotmail.com. Thank you, Nessa. ~ Love you, Bobbie
Thank you Bobbie. Oh dear, I must check my spam. @__@
I thank you so much for being such a gentle soul. o:
