would for the past
a treasure pay –
to resurrect the places
we crossed while we were dreaming
of today
when spoke a hushed apology
for fortunes we abused
and wrote again as numbers
to the stone –
sang for all another verse
before the plate was offered
as hallelujah rose
with us to stand
returning this embarassment
of what of love we held
blink and someone speaks
we hardly know –
remembered
e’er we pass as breath
into one more surrender
abyss of words
we kept the best aside –
love we never gave away
shall tie us to the river
stones within our pockets
silent sit
What beautiful words of regret Bobbie…heartfelt xx
Unfortunately, Jane, most go into the dark with regrets – not for what they did, but for what they didn’t. My heart breaks and my soul prays for them. Thank you. Much love, Bobbie
Magnificent, this my favorite, “love we never gave away
shall tie us to the river
stones within our pockets
silent sit”! great work, Bobbi!
Thank you, Linda. This was inspired by a talk with a friend (who is very ill) about regrets. Most all who have regrets – well they are not for what was done, but for what wasn’t. Words we carry to our bed turn to poison in the dark…….. I’m so glad you like this (I do too). ~ Love, Bobbie
