the chilly grey
was threatening –
as had so many times
the earth was opened up
and I was blind
forgotten for a moment
the ground (that was my love)
pulled me into more
than just belief
fastened by a will
I could not speak of yesterday
forgetting where the bridge
had burned before
as curses slipped from darkness
to my lips (a silent red)
threatened once to bury me
leave me with no past
but stronger came
the rush to carry on
the best of times
reminds me now
the way was never easy
was on the way
I thought
to turn around
but light beyond the lantern light –
a truth distilled by faith
with hand to heart
I lean into the dark
its always nice to have someone to reach out to who understands your heart, who is always near. A beautiful poem to embrace before sleep closes my eyes!
Wendell, this was actually inspired by two things, one of which I am sure you know (leaning on the everlasting arms)…..but also in response to a conversation on faith. Faith is that assurance we hold within our very being (knowing). Despite the fear, we hold on, leaning into the future with understanding that the harshest storm shall pass (the much the same way you lean forward in the car when you think you’re running out of gas – absolutely sure that it will make a difference). You touch my soul with your kindness. ~ My love, Bobbie
‘With hand to heart, I lean into the dark’… Those last two lines in particular, gave me goosebumps and a lump in my throat. There’s a lot in that for me personally. I have a collection that I would love to share with you one day that resonates with many of the things your write about, but at the moment it is sitting in some slush pile so I guess I will have to wait a few more weeks yet.
My dearest V, you will find them when the time is right, and I’ll be waiting (anxiously). I think that subconsciously, part of the inspiration for this was your piece on ‘waiting’……. Regardless what we long for, always (with faith) we lean into the unknown (and sometimes with eyes squeezed tight). Thank you, Vanessa. ~ Much love, Bobbie
Well that’s a joy to know, thanks x
…….;-) as are you
