from that which was
are we returned
so different for the knowing
of gravel roads
and time (we spent away)
resolved to dream
but for the thought –
(took so long to find us)
in the midst
of moving on –
a smile becomes
a slower start
to chart the day –
mere moments held aside
breath to raise another
from an empty
coffee cup
– or miles
(we can’t remember)
on the way to getting by
(and going on)
each day – a new
goodbye
from times before
returning as a blush
of noonday sun –
a love which stays
despite our care
in leaving us
behind
Your poem moved me greatly, especially the last verse….Beautiful to read and embrace!
I am delighted to know that, Wendell…… Your words touch my heart. Thank you. ~ Bobbie
Thank you, Wendell. A friend lamented one day about how she was heart-broken over a relationship that didn’t work. She commented, ‘he left me’, and I replied, ‘but he didn’t’. Love never leaves us (nmw), and even if those we love cross over to another place, they remain with us and in us. As e e cummings noted, ‘i carry your heart with me (i carry it in my heart)’. Love never leaves us………it is always a thought away. There – you see? It was right there. I know you know! ❤ Thank you so much. – Love, Bobbie
